Key Responsibilities of a Hospice Aide/Certified Nursing Assistant:

  • Report to the Administrator, Executive Director, or Patient Care Manager and operate under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or Clinical Supervisor.
  • Assist patients in maintaining personal hygiene.
  • Support a safe and healthy living environment.
  • Prepare and serve light meals.
  • Assist with feeding patients as necessary.
  • Help patients with mobility and ambulation.
  • Facilitate the safe use of mobility aids as instructed by nursing staff.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties, such as emptying trash and changing linens.
  • Assist with specific treatments as outlined in the aide plan of care, adhering to state regulations.
  • Encourage patient engagement in activities to promote mental alertness.
  • Provide basic emotional and psychological support to patients and their families.
  • Report any changes in the patient's condition to the nursing staff and interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate basic care techniques to primary caregivers.
  • Implement infection control measures and standard precautions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of visit itineraries.
  • Participate in staff meetings and quality improvement activities as assigned.
  • Complete documentation promptly as per orientation guidelines.

Candidate Profile

Requirements for Hospice Aide/CNA:

  • A compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
  • Comfortable providing care in various home settings.
  • Ability to remain calm and flexible during challenging situations.
  • Valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.
  • Preferred six months of patient care experience in hospice, home health, ICU, geriatrics, or oncology.
  • Additional preferred experience includes roles such as hospital Staff RN, Med Surg, PACU, Float Pool, ER, critical care, acute care, cardiac, geriatrics, admissions, wound care, telemetry, nursing home, or travel nursing.
  • Current driver's license and automobile insurance.
  • Current CPR certification.
