Key Responsibilities of a Hospice Aide/ CNA:

  • Report to the Administrator, Executive Director, or Patient Care Manager and operate under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or Clinical Supervisor.
  • Assist patients in maintaining personal hygiene.
  • Help create a safe and healthy living environment.
  • Prepare and serve light meals.
  • Support patients with feeding as necessary.
  • Assist patients with mobility.
  • Facilitate the safe use of mobility aids as instructed by nursing staff.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties such as trash disposal and linen changes.
  • Assist with specific treatments as outlined in the aide care plan and permitted by state regulations.
  • Encourage patient engagement in activities of interest to promote mental alertness.
  • Provide basic emotional and psychological support to patients and their families.
  • Communicate any changes in the patient's condition to the Registered Nurse and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Demonstrate basic care techniques to primary caregivers.
  • Implement infection control practices and standard precautions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of visit itineraries.
  • Participate in staff meetings.
  • Engage in at least one Quality Improvement activity annually, as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Complete documentation promptly as per orientation guidelines.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications for Hospice Aide/ CNA:

  • A compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
  • Comfortable providing assistance in various home settings.
  • Ability to remain calm and flexible during challenging situations.
  • Valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.
  • Preferred: Six months of patient care experience in hospice, home health, ICU, geriatrics, or oncology.
  • Additional preferred experience includes roles such as hospital Staff RN, Med Surg, PACU, Float Pool, ER, critical care, and nursing home settings.
  • Current driver's license and automobile insurance.
  • Current CPR certification.
