Key Responsibilities as a Hospice Aide/Certified Nursing Assistant:

  • Report to the Administrator, Executive Director, or Patient Care Manager and operate under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or Clinical Supervisor.
  • Assist patients in maintaining personal hygiene.
  • Help ensure a safe and healthy living environment.
  • Prepare and serve light meals.
  • Support patients with feeding as necessary.
  • Assist patients with mobility.
  • Facilitate the safe use of mobility aids like walkers or wheelchairs under nurse supervision.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties such as emptying trash and changing linens.
  • Assist with specific treatments as outlined in the aide care plan and in accordance with state regulations.
  • Encourage patient engagement in activities to promote mental alertness.
  • Provide basic emotional and psychological support to patients and their families.
  • Communicate any changes in the patient's condition to the Registered Nurse and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Demonstrate basic care techniques to primary caregivers.
  • Implement infection control measures and standard precautions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of visit itineraries.
  • Participate in staff meetings.
  • Engage in at least one Quality Improvement activity annually, as assigned by a supervisor.
  • Complete documentation promptly as per orientation guidelines.

Candidate Profile

Requirements for Hospice Aide/CNA:

  • A compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
  • Comfortable providing assistance in various home settings.
  • Ability to remain calm and flexible during crises.
  • Valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.
  • Preferred six months of patient care experience in hospice, home health, ICU, geriatrics, or oncology.
  • Additional preferred experience includes roles such as hospital Staff RN, Med Surg, PACU, Float pool, ER, critical care, acute care, cardiac, geriatrics, admissions, wound care, telemetry, nursing home, or travel nursing.
  • Current driver's license and automobile insurance.
  • Current CPR certification.
