Role Summary

The Senior Vice President of Mergers and Acquisitions for North America is tasked with spearheading the company's initiatives in mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic alliances. This pivotal role encompasses the identification of prospective targets, conducting thorough due diligence, negotiating agreements, and facilitating the seamless transition of acquired entities to the integration team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and implement the M&A strategy in alignment with the company’s overarching business objectives.
  • Identify potential acquisition opportunities through collaboration with sector leadership, market analysis, and partnerships with financial advisors.
  • Oversee the due diligence process for prospective acquisitions, coordinating with various departments to assess financial, legal, and operational factors.
  • Negotiate terms and structure of agreements in collaboration with stakeholders and legal teams.
  • Achieve a defined number of successful transactions annually.
  • Lead the M&A corporate team, currently comprising a director of strategic planning, while coordinating with various sector CFOs and M&A groups.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with external advisors, investment banks, and key players in the M&A landscape.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and competitive dynamics to pinpoint potential opportunities and challenges.
  • Provide annual training for sectors and corporate stakeholders involved in M&A activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related discipline; advanced degrees such as an MBA or CFA are preferred.
  • A proven history of leading successful M&A initiatives within a corporate or investment banking context, with 5-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Essential personal attributes include:
  1. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  2. Strategic mindset with the ability to develop and execute long-term plans that align with corporate goals.
  3. Analytical capabilities to evaluate financial statements and company valuations.
  4. Expertise in negotiating favorable deal terms.
  5. Leadership skills to manage and guide team members towards departmental objectives.
  6. Proficiency in building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
  7. High ethical standards and integrity.
