Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate a manual mill or CNC mill to create precision extrusion tooling
  • Operate a wire EDM to create precision extrusion tooling
  • Utilize a manual lathe to make aluminum rollers and other components, and/or a surface grinder to precision grind die plates
  • Design and build tools according to engineering drawings as well as fixtures and clamps for custom work piece holdings.
  • Repair and maintain existing tools to ensure optimal performance
  • Collaborate with engineers and production team to troubleshoot tooling issues
  • Perform regular inspections and maintenance on tools to prevent breakdowns
  • Support the Maintenance Department on specialized projects, such as equipment installation, motor alignment, and fabricate replacement parts

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in problem-solving and critical thinking
  • Effective time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with technical training in tool and die making
  • Proven experience as a tool maker or similar role
  • Proficiency in operating manual and CNC machine tools
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of lathe operations
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers
  • Mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Strong math skills for calculations
