GROUND SYSTEMS ENGINEER II, INSTRUMENTATION & CONTROL

Based out of Rocket Lab's Stennis Test Complex in Stennis Space Center, MS, the Ground Systems Engineer II - Instrumentation and Control supporting Neutron is responsible for the automation, testing, and commissioning of ground support software systems at Rocket Lab’s Archimedes Engine Test Facility. This role may support other programs on occasion such as the Electron team and/or the Neutron Launch site at Wallops Island, VA.

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO:

  • Design control systems for the Archimedes engine propulsion test stands
  • Support certification of test facility systems including producing documentation wiring diagrams, operator manuals, maintenance procedures, test procedures, and work instructions
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate the performance of systems and engine interfaces
  • Design, develop and maintain test equipment
  • Post-test data analysis
  • Ensure best practices for instrumentation including: high frequency pressure, acceleration and speed; pressure, temperature and flow rate; etc.
  • Support technicians remotely or in person during installation, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting activities
  • Follow code standard guidelines

YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Aerospace, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent
  • 2+ years’ industry experience
  • Hands-on experience with data acquisition, control, and automation systems
  • Experience with object Oriented PLC programming
  • Ability to read, understand, and produce electrical schematics

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:

  • Experience with rocket vehicle engine test stand or launch pad systems OR oil and gas, process, mining, or other similar industry. This role is not limited to those with prior rocket industry experience
  • Experience implementing functional safety (IEC 61508 & IEC 61511)
  • Experience with National Instruments PXI, C/Rio and CDaq hardware
  • Experience with Beckhoff Structured Text
  • Development with tools including: C/C++, Python, TeamCity, EPlan, Bekhoff PLC Programming, NI LabVIEW, Gitlab/Git Version Control System

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must be physically able to commute to buildings
  • Occasional exposure to dust, fumes and moderate levels of noise.
