Description This position is located in Rancho Cordova, California, and is an in-office position. ***THIS IS NOT A REMOTE/HYBRID POSITION*** You must currently live in the Greater Sacramento Area or plan to relocate in the next few weeks. ***RELOCATION ASSISTANCE IS NOT AVAILABLE*** POSITION SUMMARY: With limited supervision, the Controls Engineer III is responsible for the design and development of motion control and graphical user interfaces for automated and semi-automated industrial tools and machinery for pipe and tube machining and welding applications. TYPICAL DUTIES: Collaborates and strategizes with colleagues in the engineering, production/manufacturing, product management, service, and repair departments to solve problems and develop innovative world-class products. Completes specification and design of control system architecture, typically with three axes or fewer in coordinated motion. Does setup and programming of PLCs (ladder logic and structured text) and HMIs for user friendly operation of portable machines for machining, welding, and laser-based inspection applications. Completes electromechanical system design and specification (including AC, DC, stepper, and servo motor and drives). Does control panel wiring and troubleshooting using common tools such as DMM and oscilloscope. Provides hands-on problem solving and assembly, and testing of prototypes within an R&D shop environment. Provides technical support to customers and technicians in the field. Travels both domestically and internationally to other company facilities or client locations. Other duties as assigned. *denotes essential job function Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum five (5) years of applicable prior professional experience, including substantial experience specifically in PLC and HMI based motion control system design and testing. Prior professional experience in application development within MS Windows environment (UWP, WPF, .NET, Visual Studio, etc.) High level of attention to detail and completeness of work. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Rockwell Automation Studio 5000 experience and proficiency. Autocad Electrical or similar schematic design software experience. Prior experience in one of more of the following industries (or similar): CNC machine tools, industrial automation, robot/automated welding. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent discipline. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to lift/move up to 50 pounds without assistance; Lifting/Moving anything over 50 pounds must be assisted. Must be able to wear safety equipment as required for personal protection. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; stand; stoop; squat; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to safely use hand tools, power tools, and engineering product. Must be able to use office equipment such as computers, multi-line phones, scanners, copiers, and paper cutters. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily conducted in a semi-private office/cubicle setting but also may require off site field work. The noise level is mild in the office. Travel to other company facilities or client locations required up to 10% of time. Duties may require interaction or work in a shop/plant atmosphere. The production or shop/plant environment may have a moderate to loud noise level and requires use of Personal Protective Equipment. Interaction with other employees, as well as supervisors, and client personnel. Employees may be required to work in excess of 8 hours in a day and/or 40 hours per week.
