Position Overview:
The role involves the design and development of deliverables related to substation Protection & Control (P&C) design projects for a prominent electric utility client.
Key deliverables include one-line and three-line diagrams, AC and DC elementary and logic diagrams, front and rear panel elevations and wiring, supervisory and control drawings, electrical vendor equipment wiring diagrams, comprehensive cable schedules, and bills of materials.
This position will report to the Substation Engineering Manager or Lead Engineer.Key Responsibilities:
1. Execute substation P&C design, including the creation of field notes, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
2. Conduct thorough self-review processes to ensure the quality of work prior to submission to senior design reviewers.
3. Develop computer-assisted design and construction drawings of a complex nature, ensuring neatness and minimal errors.
4. Perform engineering calculations such as AC and DC load assessments necessary for the proper sizing of auxiliary systems.
5. Ensure all designs adhere to client and industry standards.
6. Communicate and coordinate project activities with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders as required.
7. Utilize client and/or company information systems to monitor and update design activities.
8. Attend site meetings to gather project scope information.
9. Provide field support during construction as needed.
10. Undertake additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- 6-10 years of experience in substation design or a related field within a utility or consulting engineering environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
- Basic written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Engineer's License in Electrical Engineering is preferred but not mandatory.
- Experience with substation design and construction standards relevant to Southern California Edison.
