Position Overview:

This role is situated in a collaborative office environment and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work arrangements. Candidates must be located in the Greater Sacramento Area or be willing to relocate shortly.


Key Responsibilities:

The Automation Controls Engineer will operate with minimal oversight, focusing on the design and development of motion control systems and user interfaces for automated machinery used in pipe and tube machining and welding.

  • Engage with cross-functional teams in engineering, manufacturing, product management, and service to address challenges and innovate top-tier products.
  • Design and specify control system architecture, typically involving coordinated motion with three axes or fewer.
  • Program PLCs (using ladder logic and structured text) and HMIs to ensure user-friendly operation of portable machining and welding equipment.
  • Conduct electromechanical system design, including various motor types and drives.
  • Perform control panel wiring and troubleshooting utilizing standard tools such as digital multimeters and oscilloscopes.
  • Provide hands-on assembly, testing, and problem-solving support in a research and development environment.
  • Offer technical assistance to clients and field technicians.
  • Travel may be required to various company facilities or client sites.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience, particularly in PLC and HMI-based motion control system design and testing.
  • Experience in application development within a Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Rockwell Automation Studio 5000.
  • Experience with Autocad Electrical or similar schematic design software.
  • Background in industries such as CNC machine tools, industrial automation, or automated welding.

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Physical Demands:

Employees must be capable of lifting and moving up to 50 pounds independently, with assistance required for heavier items. The role necessitates the use of safety equipment and involves various physical activities including sitting, standing, and using hands for tasks.


Work Environment:

The position is primarily office-based but may require fieldwork. The office environment is generally quiet, while fieldwork may involve moderate to loud noise levels, necessitating personal protective equipment.
