The Michigan State University College of Natural Science is home to 29 departments and programs in the biological, physical and mathematical sciences. There are more than 63,000 NatSci alumni who are leaders in their fields and making meaningful contributions within their communities and around the world. The college is seeking an Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement to develop a strategic framework for alumni engagement in key alumni markets. Working within the college’s advancement office, the Assistant Director will ensure efficient and coordinated engagement opportunities, assist in developing fundraising strategies to achieve the college’s goals, and conduct discovery work to identify new potential donors. This role will work under the guidance of NatSci leadership and in collaboration with development and department colleagues, as well as various campus units. This position also acts as the college's liaison with other university departments, including the MSU Alumni Office and University Advancement. The responsibilities of the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement follow and there may be occasional other duties as assigned. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Alumni Engagement (60%) Plan and implement an engagement strategy that promotes alumni participation that supports the College of Natural Science’s strategic plan. Coordinates with college department and programs to maximize visibility and awareness of alumni engagement opportunities, both internal and external. Manages a portfolio of alumni to strengthen engagement and cultivation. Partner with NatSci Communications on the quarterly electronic newsletter and other electronic communications. Identify, recruit and train volunteers for specific projects and/or goals. Utilize the Ascend database to record alumni contact activities, update alumni information and alumni news/notes. Prepare, monitor, and administer Alumni Engagement budget. Programs and Events (40%) Manage the logistics, coordination and execution of college program and events (both in-person and virtual) and Dean’s special events. Plans, coordinates and/or assists with development events such as groundbreakings, dedications, campaign meetings, endowed faculty investitures and scholarship events. Manage the Dean’s Research Scholars including selecting evaluators, overseeing selection process, orientation, ordering supplies, overseeing profile sheets and posters, finding opportunities to feature them and accompany them when traveling. Monitors expenses and vendor contracts to ensure provisions are met and services received. Develop and implement an alumni presence at NatSci commencements. Oversees follow-up, evaluation, and recommendation of improvements for alumni events. Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, public relations, communications or related field. One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in higher education fundraising, event coordination, public speaking; or and equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in the use of word processing, spreadsheets, and database software. Valid vehicle operation license. Willingness to work some nights and weekends and travel related to Dean’s Research Scholars, alumni programs and events. Desired Qualifications

Three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in program marketing, promotion, event planning, volunteer management, multi-project management or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent written and verbal skills Excellent organizational and time management skills Experience in alumni programming and fund raising Proven track record of successful special events planning Understanding the importance of building life-long relationships between the college and our alumni and friends.
