With a diverse student population, Cecil College enrolls approximately 2,500 credit students and 3,400 non-credit students. Cecil offers associate degrees, certificate programs and non-credit classes. Cecil offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs.

General Description:

The Nursing Student Success/Academic Progression Coordinator is responsible for providing academic assistance with retention and progression by coordinating opportunities and collaborating with the nursing faculty and staff to facilitate student success for all students enrolled in the nursing program. Under the guidelines of the grant, the coordinator will work closely with nursing leadership. The coordinator will also be responsible for the oversight and monitoring of the grant in order to meet or exceed the grant’s target goals and outcomes. This responsibility also includes data collection and analysis. The Coordinator works with students who seek assistance and coordinates with nursing faculty that refer students for additional academic support. The individual must possess a commitment to student success, and strong interpersonal, advising, public speaking, and data management skills. The individual must also possess the ability to work as a member of a team and exercise exceptional organizational skills, independent judgment, initiative, and confidentiality.

Specific Duties:
  1. Work with current partners and initiate new partnerships to develop articulation agreements to increase seamless academic progression for nursing students.
  2. Work with partners to execute their perspective portions of the ATB curriculum to be offered at Cecil College.
  3. Meet and advise ATB students.
  4. Develop webpages and workshops to educate nursing students about academic progression opportunities at Cecil College.
  5. Collaborate with nursing faculty to develop and implement alternative learner success experiences to include tutoring, time management, stress management, reading and studying, and test-taking skills.
  6. Initiates Learner Success Contracts for all nursing students identified by the nursing faculty that are in need of additional academic support (ex. Test-taking strategies).
  7. Works with individual students and faculty to engage and monitor students with success plans and provides documentation of student progress.
  8. Provide additional content resources to students during in-person learning sessions and on the LMS (Blackboard®).
  9. Meet weekly with nursing faculty on student’s progress and identifies additional needs when applicable.
  10. Coordinate the delivery of weekly 30 minute in-class workshops for Level I students on test-taking strategies.
  11. Coordinate and/or conducts individual and group study sessions.
  12. Conduct one-on-one post-exam analysis with students that are referred by the nursing faculty.
  13. Make referrals to academic support services including counseling, financial aid, writing center for reading skills, counseling center or student life for additional needs (ex. food, transportation).
  14. Facilitate communication between faculty and students as needed.
  15. Academic monitoring. Supports the collection of data and tracks retention rates (ex. initial cohort retention, readmitted student retention, LPN Transfer retention, status of students that withdraw from the nursing program during the first and subsequent semesters.
  16. Assist in the preparation and submission of all student learner-success-related reports, surveys and data that are required by the department.
  17. Attend monthly ACEN meetings to provide updates on students’ status, obtain referrals from faculty.
  18. Support the faculty in developing department/program policies regarding first-year student learner success throughout the nursing program.
  19. Participate in student workshops and orientations, as applicable.
  20. Complete other duties as assigned.

This position is a five-year, grant supported, position ending June 30, 2025; extension of assignment is dependent upon funding. Work schedule will require attendance at state grant meeting and other grant-related events.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education An earned Master’s degree in nursing with a minimum of 3 years of staff supervision. Program administration experience within the last 5 years preferably grant funded. Administrative experience in monitoring, evaluating, reporting and budget management. Must have the ability to work in a collaborative environment; and have strong written and verbal communication skills.

Skills Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact well with students, colleagues, and general public. Aptitude in technology use such as but not limited to: Microsoft office; e-mail; Blackboard ®; Power point ®; and various forms of social media.
