Everyman Theatre is entering its 34th season producing top-notch local professional theatre featuring a Resident Company of Artists alongside a robust roster of Education programming serving students from PreK through adults. Everyman Theatre focuses on building theatre in Baltimore, hiring as many local artists and artisans as possible, and building or sourcing all production elements right in its Downtown home. The Director of Philanthropy will lead the design, development, and execution of a comprehensive growing philanthropy program at Everyman Theatre in alignment with the organization’s strategic priorities and patron loyalty approach. The Director of Philanthropy will plan, oversee, and implement all fundraising and philanthropy activities and will be charged with leading the organization’s philanthropy programs to higher levels of achievement including expanding the donor base, annual fund, and corporate giving, and developing a funding campaign. The Director of Philanthropy will not achieve the philanthropy goals and growth on their own, but must be effective in visioning, delegating, and inspiring their greater team of the Board, Managing & Artistic Directors, development staff, organization staff, and Resident Company to be ambassadors for organization-wide philanthropy.

The Director of Philanthropy will collaborate closely with the Managing Director, Director of Marketing & Communications, and Director of Education to establish, maintain, and increase the organization’s patron advancement strategies which are focused on communicating intentionally with individuals that engage with Everyman – whether a patron, donor, student, or any engagement combination. The organization is working with consulting firm TRG Arts to develop and implement tactics in alignment with these strategies.

The Director of Philanthropy will be a key member of the leadership team and will actively participate in organizational strategy to maintain, deepen, and develop patron, donor, and community engagement. The Director of Philanthropy reports to the Managing Director, works closely with both the Managing Director and Artistic Director to support and deliver fundraising efforts, and leads a current full-time team of three.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·       Develop, lead, and execute a strategic fundraising plan for all Everyman Theatre annual giving (Board, individual, corporate, foundation, government, and events) to meet financial goals developed by the Director of Philanthropy in consultation with the Managing Director and approved by the Board. Establish metrics and provide regular updates to leadership.

·       Collaborate regularly with Director of Marketing & Communications and Director of Education to advance patrons across engagement type and actively contribute to shared tactics to increase patronage and giving at Everyman including stewardship and cultivation events, campaign design, communication tactics and segmentation, and benefits.

·       Lead and participate in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major donors and prospects, working closely with the Managing Director, Artistic Director, and Board to steward relationships resulting in major gifts, corporate philanthropy, foundation support, and government grants.

·       Manage and actively expand a portfolio of top donors and prospects. Ensure that every major donor and prospect has a clear strategy and timeline for cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation and that all interactions are recorded. Activate and support the Managing and Artistic Directors in stewardship and solicitation. Ensure quality stewardship of all donor types and gift levels.

·       Work with Managing Director to inspire a Board culture of philanthropy and patron advancement. Provide specific action items for Board Members to contribute to patron advancement planning.

·       Develop and execute a corporate giving program that encourages businesses to engage with Everyman through sponsorship, employee and client theatre attendance, and/or professional development opportunities in Everyman’s Education programs.

·       Develop relationships with foundation funders and prospects and oversee the grant application process to ensure that Everyman’s case for support is consistently clear and compelling.

·       Maintain awareness and develop relationships in all levels of government to effectively advocate for Everyman, Downtown, and the arts and to solicit grant and partnership opportunities.

·       Fully develop, launch, steward, and solicit for a Planned Giving program.

·       Work with a cross-departmental team to design, plan, and execute Everyman Theatre’s signature annual fundraising event, A Night for Baltimore. Oversee the fundraising for the annual event with the support of the Board, Managing and Artistic Directors.

·       Lead, motivate, and mentor the development team, ensuring that their work serves the mission of and fundraising plan for the theatre in an effective, unified, positive, and productive manner.

·       Maintain, strengthen, and frequently evaluate department processes to effectively advance patron loyalty and ensure that timely and personalized service is provided. Oversee the collection and storage of accurate and current customer data with Director of Marketing & Communications.

·       Prepare and lead the theatre in a fundraising campaign(s) by mapping out, staffing, and executing a campaign strategy to secure resources for the short and long-term sustainability of the theatre.

·       Represent Everyman Theatre in the community through attending local and regional cultural programs, lobbying and networking with elected officials, participating in local business networking events, and having a periodic presence with patrons at Everyman performances.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

·       Possess positivity, creativity, initiative, confidence, and a contagious passion to embrace Everyman’s mission and core values of People, Community, Excellence and to take the Theatre’s philanthropy efforts to a new level with both vision and execution.  

·       5+ years of professional non-profit fundraising experience with demonstrated leadership. Significant knowledge in at least one area of: individual giving, major donor cultivation and solicitation, and/or corporate philanthropy. Experience in institutional giving, government relations, campaigns, fundraising event planning, and/or planned giving a plus.

·       Comfort speaking in large or small groups and individual conversations with an ability to passionately articulate the value and importance of local professional theatre, theatre education, and the vital role Everyman Theatre plays in the community and economy.

·       Exhibit an exceptional patron service mindset.

·       Demonstrated ability to identify and build effective collaborations and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and an excitement to authentically relationship build in the community toward new and innovative means of engagement.

·       Ability to communicate effectively and transparently, problem solve, and collaborate across departments and mediums, and with individuals across cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.

·       Adept at positively and empathically managing others and oneself through competing priorities and guiding decision making to support fundraising goals with a recognition of capacity.

·       Ability to lead with solution-oriented, creative, and analytical thinking and to provide insight, constructive feedback, and suggestions to leadership.

·       Experience developing and managing budgets across shifting priorities and circumstances.

·       Understanding of and appreciation for anti-oppression practices with the willingness to uphold the Everyman CARES (Committee on Anti-racism, Equity, and Solidarity) practices and code of conduct and a vulnerability to learn and grow in these practices.

·       Experience in a CRM platform a plus (Everyman uses Patron Manager).

·       Experience with and/or knowledge of Baltimore City philanthropy a plus.

·       Passion for local arts and artists, live theatre performance, and arts education, and their role in community building.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

-Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and is expected to be in the range of $92,000 to the low $100s. This is a full-time exempt position.
