Description:
This position involves providing nursing care in a hospital setting to a varied group of patients with health conditions ranging from simple to complex. Responsibilities include assuming responsibility for an assigned group of patients, documenting patient responses to nursing interventions, assisting physicians during examinations and treatments, obtaining and monitoring physiological data, administering medications, and providing competent patient care. Interacting with families to share care plans is also integral to the role. Additional duties include delegating tasks to support staff and making referrals regarding patient care needs. Nurses in this unit primarily handle patients pre or post-surgical services, with a focus on surgical experience. Candidates should have skills in caring for patients with new drains, wounds, tracheostomies, ostomies, and nasogastric or duodenal feeding tubes. Monitoring for reaction, rejection, and infection in transplant patients is also an essential part of the role. Skills required include knowledge of professional nursing theory and techniques, strong organizational skills, good verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs. Preferred education includes a Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
