Job Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse - Surgical Specialty

Job Specialty: FS (Med/Surg Unit)

Job Duration: 13 weeks

Shift: Night Shift

Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in acute care surgical floor

License: Current RN License issued by the State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC)

Certifications: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association

Must-Have: Acute care surgical floor experience; ENT and/or Transplant Experience Preferred

Job Description:

- Provide nursing care in a hospital setting to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex.
- Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
- Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, and note all changes in physician orders.
- Assist physicians in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
- Obtain and monitor physiological data, observe physiological manifestations, and intervene when necessary.
- Administer medication as prescribed and initiate, regulate, and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products.
- Deliver patient care competently and interact with family and patient to share care plans during hospital stays and at discharge.
- Inform patients and families of hospital procedures and make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
- Delegate tasks to support staff as necessary.
- Care for post-operative patients with new drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, NGT, or DHT, including step-down care.
- Monitor surgical and transplant patients closely for reactions, rejection, and infection.

Skills Required:

- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures
- Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to respond effectively to the cultural and language needs of patients and visitors
- Basic computer skills

Education:

- Required: Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (or higher) from a Board Approved Program
