Job Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse - Surgical Specialty

Job Specialty: FS - Surgical/Transplant

Job Duration: 13 Weeks

Shift: Day - 3x12 - 7am to 7pm

Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Experience: Minimum of 1 year of acute care surgical floor experience required

License: Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC)

Certifications: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association

Must-Have: Acute care surgical floor experience, preferably with ENT and/or Transplant experience

Job Description:

- Provide nursing care to a diverse patient population with health conditions ranging from simple to complex.
- Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
- Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; note all changes in physician orders on assigned patients.
- Assist physicians during patient examinations and minor diagnostic procedures.
- Obtain and monitor physiological data of patients, observe physiological manifestations, and intervene when necessary.
- Administer prescribed medications and manage intravenous infusions and blood products.
- Deliver competent and compassionate patient care.
- Communicate with patients and families about care plans and hospital procedures, both during stay and upon discharge.
- Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
- Delegate tasks to support staff effectively.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Nurses will care for postoperative patients, especially those with new drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, NGT, or DHT.
- Some patients require step-down care, with patient ratios of 5:1 for surgical patients and 3:1 in the step-down area.
- Monitor new and returning transplant patients closely for reactions, rejection, and infections.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program is required; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, along with some computer skills.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships and cater to the cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
