Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Surgical Specialty

Job Specialty: FS

Job Duration: 16 weeks

Shift: Days

Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Experience: Minimum of 1 year of acute care surgical floor experience

License: Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC)

Certifications:
- Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association

Must-Have:
- Acute care surgical floor experience
- Med/Surg experience, especially post-operative care
- ENT and/or transplant experience preferred

Job Description:

- Provide nursing care in a hospital for patients with a range of health problems from simple to complex.
- Assume responsibility for a designated group of patients.
- Document patient responses to nursing interventions and medical treatments; note changes in physician orders.
- Assist physicians in examining patients and performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
- Obtain and monitor physiological data of patients, observing manifestations, and intervening when necessary.
- Administer prescribed medication and regulate, initiate, and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products.
- Deliver competent patient care and share care plans with patients and families during hospital stays and upon discharge.
- Inform patients and families about hospital procedures and make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
- Delegate tasks to support staff.

Nurses on this unit need Med/Surg experience with patients during pre- or post-surgical services, mostly requiring surgical experience. Care involves handling new drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, and dealing with NGT or DHT. Some patients require step-down care. The surgical transplant area handles new and returning patients needing close monitoring for reaction, rejection, and infection as well.

Skills Required:
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques.
- Maintain good working relationships with other employees.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Respond effectively to the cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
- Basic computer skills.

Education:
- Required: Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a board-approved program.

Languages: Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
