About This Role
Translational In Vivo Sciences (TIVS) at Biogen is seeking an Associate Scientist to join a cross-functional research effort to enhance the delivery of Biogen’s therapeutics to the central nervous system (CNS) and muscle. These efforts will be applied across multiple therapeutic areas in the neurological and neuromuscular space, supporting portfolio programs and advancing our understanding of blood-brain barrier (BBB) and muscle delivery. The successful candidate will join a team whose aim to is to evaluate a broad range of CNS/muscle delivery technologies in preclinical mouse models with both molecular and bioluminescence imaging readouts. The individual will be reporting into the head of the Drug Delivery group within TIVS. The research projects are highly collaborative across multiple organizations within Biogen, and this position offers the opportunity for the right individual to not only perform critical studies for the advancement of Biogen’s therapeutic programs, but to contribute to novel platform development in response to new program priorities.
What You’ll Do
- Dosing of laboratory mice (intravenous, subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, intramuscular)
- Cranial mouse surgery
- Cardiac perfusion, tissue dissections
- RNA extraction and qPCR/ddPCR
- In vivo bioluminescence imaging
- Data and image analyses
- Laboratory presentations are expected, and departmental presentations are encouraged
Who You Are
We are seeking an individual who is detail-oriented and relishes hands-on work but also has a natural curiosity for the scientific context of their project. Given the fast progression of novel delivery technologies, our group caters towards those candidates who can be agile and are excited to learn new fields. Finally, the ideal candidate will be comfortable working with laboratory mice while maintaining a high standard of animal welfare.
Qualifications
Required Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology or related field
- 0-2 years' experience (academia or industry)
- Basic dosing techniques including intravenous and intraperitoneal injections
- Cardiac perfusion, tissue dissections
- Basic molecular biology experience, including PCR
- Cranial mouse surgery
Preferred Skills
- Other dosing techniques, including subcutaneous, intramuscular, intrathecal, oral gavage, and neonatal cranial injections
- In vivo bioluminescence
- Immunohistochemistry, including cryosectioning
- Mouse breeding and genotyping
- Familiarity with analytical software such as GraphPad Prism
