The Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) seeks to hire a highly motivated, experienced research analyst and editor with knowledge of national security and foreign policy. They will join a fast-paced team and must be familiar with and committed to furthering FDD's work.


Responsibilities

  • Closely tracks news on the Middle East to develop a deep understanding of political and military developments and contribute to FDD content development
  • Researches, writes, and commissions expert quotes for Flash Briefs on a daily basis; contributes to other materials of varying lengths, styles, and research areas
  • Edits, copyedits, and proofreads FDD written products to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency with FDD's style guide and vision
  • Tracks metrics and updates Monday.com; supports management of the editing process, from initial edits through publication, including adhering to project schedules and updating internal reports to keep stakeholders notified of progress
  • Support projects and initiatives of FDD's Research department, to include editing of website copy, press releases, scholar biographies, job postings, and other materials as needed
  • Works with FDD's Communications department to post content to FDD's webpage using WordPress and to amplify newsworthy content using a content relationship manager (CRM) program
  • Works a five-day work week spanning the weekend, to include Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, with either Tuesday-Wednesday or Wednesday-Thursday as days off.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, Masters degree in a relevant field (e.g. Middle East Studies, International Relations, National Security Studies) preferred
  • Strong interest in and background in U.S. foreign policy and/or public policy
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and copyediting skills, including mastery of English grammar
  • Strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to work well in a team
  • Ability to work on tight deadlines and with the news cycle, as required
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, WordPress, and Monday.com preferred
  • Experience in journalism, think tanks, or on Capitol Hill a plus
  • Languages, especially Hebrew, Arabic, Persian and Turkish, a plus
