Position Overview:

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) is seeking a Research Analyst (RA) for a one-year, renewable position within its Director General's Office. The RA will be responsible for creating communication and outreach materials for the Director General while conducting analyses pertinent to food security, nutrition, agricultural systems, rural development, poverty alleviation, and environmental challenges. This role requires close collaboration with the Director General and a dedicated team within the office.

Key Responsibilities:

The specific responsibilities of the RA include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing presentations, speeches, blog entries, opinion pieces, and social media content.
  • Researching and analyzing various topics related to critical development outcomes such as food security, nutrition, poverty reduction, environmental sustainability, equity, and resilience.
  • Drafting research papers, reports, policy briefs, journal articles, brochures, and internal documentation.
  • Conducting literature reviews and synthesizing findings.
  • Performing trend analyses on significant factors influencing global food security, nutrition, and poverty.
  • Executing additional quantitative analyses as required.
  • Assisting in the coordination of committee meetings.
  • Managing databases effectively.
  • Completing other assigned tasks as necessary.

Qualifications Required:

  • For the Research Analyst I level, a Bachelor's degree with two years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, International Development, Public Policy, or a closely related discipline.
  • For the Research Analyst II level, a Master's degree in the aforementioned fields along with three years of relevant post-Master's experience.
  • Familiarity with issues surrounding global food security and nutrition, food systems, environmental matters, gender issues, and poverty alleviation.
  • Proven ability to conduct research and strong analytical capabilities.
  • Exceptional writing skills, including the capacity to convey technical information to non-specialist audiences.
  • Outstanding skills in visual presentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and consistently meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Proactive and self-motivated approach.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to thrive in a team-oriented, multicultural environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong foundation in development economics and applied economics.
  • Experience in creating infographics.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Employee will be required to sit for extended periods.
  • Employee may lift weights ranging from 0-10 pounds.
  • Close visual acuity is necessary for tasks such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing computer screens, and extensive reading.

Compensation: The anticipated salary range for this position is between $55,600 - $69,500 for level 18R and $64,200 - $80,200 for level 19R. Salary will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors.
