Position Overview:

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) is seeking a Research Analyst (RA) for a one-year, renewable position within its Director General's Office. The RA will be responsible for creating communication and outreach materials for the Director General while also performing analyses related to food security, nutrition, agricultural systems, rural development, poverty alleviation, and environmental challenges. The RA will collaborate closely with the Director General and a dedicated team within the office.

Key Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop presentations, speeches, blog entries, opinion pieces, commentaries, and social media content.
  • Research and analyze various topics pertinent to significant development outcomes such as food security, nutrition, poverty reduction, environmental sustainability, equity, and resilience.
  • Compose research papers, reports, policy briefs, journal articles, brochures, and internal documentation.
  • Conduct literature reviews and synthesize findings.
  • Perform trend analysis on critical factors influencing global food security, nutrition, and poverty.
  • Execute additional quantitative analyses as required.
  • Assist in coordinating committee meetings.
  • Manage and maintain databases.
  • Undertake other tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • For the Research Analyst I level, a Bachelor's degree with two years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, International Development, Public Policy, or a closely related discipline.
  • For the Research Analyst II level, a Master's degree in the aforementioned fields along with three years of relevant post-Master's work experience.
  • Understanding of global food security and nutrition issues, food systems, environmental concerns, gender, and poverty alleviation.
  • Proven research capabilities and strong analytical skills.
  • Exceptional writing abilities, including the capacity to convey technical information to non-expert audiences.
  • Outstanding skills in visual presentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and consistently meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Self-motivated and proactive approach.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to thrive in a team-oriented, multicultural environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong foundation in development economics and applied economics.
  • Experience in creating infographics.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Employee will be required to sit for extended periods.
  • Employee may lift items weighing between 0-10 pounds.
  • Close visual acuity is necessary for tasks such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing computer screens, and extensive reading.

Salary Range: The anticipated salary ranges for this position are between 18 R: $55,600 - $69,500; 19R: $64,200 - $80,200. Salary will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors.
