Job Purpose/ Position Objective:

The Senior Director of Human Resources is a strategic leader who works closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to provide leadership over the ABS HR department. The Senior Director is responsible for the collaborative development and execution of HR strategies aligned with organizational goals, across the full range of nonprofit HR responsibilities. This responsibility includes short-term and long-term goals across talent acquisition, talent management, and organizational culture, always within alignment with the strategic goals of ABS and our global collaborative partnerships working in Bible advocacy, access, and engagement. The Senior Director works under the supervision of the Chief Administrative Officer and collaborates with, builds trust with, and serves all departments in the organization.

Minimum Spiritual and Personal Commitment:

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute HR strategies aligned with the organization’s mission, goals, and objectives to drive organizational success. Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure strategic alignment of HR strategies with the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and talent management processes to attract, retain, and develop a high-performing workforce.
  • Champion diversity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Design and manage compensation and benefits programs that are competitive, equitable, and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Design and implement performance management systems and processes to drive employee performance and development.
  • Act as a strategic business partner to organizational leaders, providing HR expertise and insights to support decision-making.
  • Identify training needs and develop programs to enhance employee skills and capabilities. Champion manager and leadership development programs, cultivating a healthy organizational culture and a strong pipeline of future leaders.
  • Oversee employee relations, including conflict resolution, coaching, disciplinary actions, and ensuring a positive work environment. Enhance employee engagement and wellbeing through strategic initiatives and programs.
  • Lead HR initiatives to support organizational change and facilitate smooth transitions and adaptations to evolving organizational needs.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with HR-related laws and regulations and mitigate HR-related organizational risks. Stay proactive in changing legislation and ensure that the organization is prepared to remain in compliance.
  • Manage HR systems and other technology to streamline HR processes and improve efficiency. Use HR analytics to gather insights and make data-driven decisions that drive improvements.
  • Oversee the communication of HR policies, procedures, and initiatives to employees. Engage with internal and external stakeholders to understand their needs and align HR initiatives accordingly.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Coordinate direct and indirect supervisory responsibilities for 2-3 staff following the ministry’s policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining staff, gathering feedback, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

  • Strong skills in leading and managing change, developing workable implementation plans, communicating change effectively, preparing and supporting those affected by change, monitoring transition, holding the team accountable, and evaluating results.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification highly desirable.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in HR leadership roles, with demonstrated success in developing and executing HR strategies aligned with organizational goals. Proven experience in talent acquisition, employee engagement, leadership development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead change initiatives and inspire teams.
  • Extensive knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in HR technology and analytics tools. Experience with ADP and/or other similar software platforms.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to build effective relationships and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • High level of emotional intelligence, adaptability, resilience, ethics, and integrity.

Working Conditions: Office located in old-city Philadelphia. U.S. Infrequent domestic travel. Core Hours: 8:30 – 5:00. Currently in office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Remote working location possible for the other days.
