Job Summary

The Director of Sales & Events at Woodmont Country Club is a pivotal business leader within our Catering Sales Department, encompassing a broader scope than a traditional Director of Catering role. This position is responsible for managing both reactive and proactive catering sales efforts, with a shared responsibility for achieving revenue goals, ensuring member and guest satisfaction, and driving the financial performance of the department. Additionally, the Director is focused on team development, training, and fostering a positive team culture.


The Director will implement the club’s service strategy and relevant brand initiatives throughout the sales process. Providing daily leadership to a team of on-property catering sales associates, this role will also collaborate with key team members to qualify business leads and ensure the seamless execution of events. The primary focus is on consistently delivering prestigious-level service and maximizing revenue opportunities through effective sales strategies.

Additionally, the Director will take the lead on all member events, actively engaging in the growth of member club usage and activities by increasing member events and identifying value for our esteemed members. This comprehensive approach ensures that Woodmont Country Club remains at the forefront of excellence in sales and event management.

Candidate Profile

Education and Experience:

  • Required: 4-year bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a related major.
  • Experience: 5+ years in sales and marketing or a related professional area.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in private event sales and event marketing. Experience in managing member club events is highly desirable. As a Director, you will leverage your expertise to drive revenue through strategic event sales initiatives, develop and execute marketing plans to promote the club's offerings, and ensure the seamless execution of high-profile member events. Your leadership will play a pivotal role in enhancing the club's reputation and delivering exceptional experiences for our members.

Core Work Activities

Managing Sales Activities

  • Manage the catering sales efforts for the club, including local and group/convention business.
  • Solicit and book local catering business, and develop group business.
  • Develop and manage catering sales revenue and operation budgets, and provide forecasting reports.
  • Work with the management team to create and implement a catering sales/marketing plan addressing revenue, customers, and market.
  • Develop menus that drive sales.
  • Assist with selling, implementation, and follow-through of catering promotions.
  • Execute and support Woodmont’s Customer Service Standards.
  • Execute and support the operational aspects of business booked (e.g., generating proposals, writing contracts, customer correspondence).
  • Coordinate and deploy catering sales resources on-property to establish pull-through and sustainment of catering sales strategies and selling solutions.
  • Ensure a seamless turnover from sales to operations and back to sales while consistently delivering high-level service.
  • Monitor the effective resolution of guest issues that arise as a result of the sales process.
  • Maintain successful performance by increasing revenues, controlling expenses, and providing a return on investment for the club.
  • Implement the brand’s service strategy and applicable brand initiatives in all aspects of the sales process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs.

Building Successful Relationships

  • Interact effectively with members/guests/clients, sales and kitchen teams, vendors, competitors, local community, catering associations, committee members, and other club departments to monitor satisfaction.
  • Execute exemplary customer service to drive customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Serve the customer by understanding their needs and recommending appropriate features and services.
  • Gain an understanding of the club’s primary target customer and service expectations.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to receive warm leads for more in-depth qualification of the business for the property.
  • Partner with Event Management and club operations to sell products and services that the club can successfully execute.

Leadership

  • Manage and direct the on-property catering sales managers to achieve club revenue goals.
  • Partner with Human Resources to attract, develop, and retain the right people to support the strategic priorities of the market.
  • Create effective structures, processes, jobs, and performance management systems.
  • Set goals and expectations for direct reports using the Leadership Performance Process (LPP).
  • Forecast talent needs and manage talent acquisition strategy with HR to minimize lost time due to turnover.
  • Maintain an active list of the competition’s best salespeople and execute a recruitment and acquisition plan with HR.
  • Support tools and training resources to educate sales associates on winning catering solutions.
  • Champion leadership development and workforce planning priorities.
  • Identify, train, and mentor catering sales associates.
  • Transfer functional knowledge and develop catering sales skills of other discipline managers.
  • Share responsibility for achieving revenue goals, member and guest satisfaction, and the financial performance of the department.
