Position Summary: Join our dynamic team as a Lead Mechanical Engineer, where you'll supervise a small team of 3-4 engineers in designing switch matrices for routing multiple radio frequency (RF) signals. Your responsibilities will include creating 3D model layouts to support design for manufacturability (DFM) and providing support during the assembly process. This role combines leadership with hands-on design and mechanical engineering duties.
Essential Job Function:
- Develop comprehensive 3D CAD models of the entire switch matrix to facilitate custom part design and assembly documentation. Create 3D CAD models from datasheets and actual RF components when models are unavailable.
- Lead process modifications to optimize tool and talent utilization, driving efficiency gains.
- Oversee the design layout of switch matrices, ensuring adherence to DFM principles and serviceability standards.
- Coach the ME team, conducting monthly touch bases with team members and annual performance appraisals. Collaborate with HR/Manager to develop growth paths for high performers as needed.
- Design sheet metal parts to support all internal components and connections, leveraging knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes and available components.
- Design semi-rigid cables to connect components and panel connections, including designing connections between system instruments if necessary.
- Collaborate with suppliers to leverage current manufacturing processes and obtain custom components within project timelines.
- Work closely with technicians to support manufacturability during the integration process.
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software such as Siemens NX, Creo, CATIA, and computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools for design and analysis.
- Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Ability to design parts and assemblies optimized for manufacturability, considering cost, efficiency, and safety.
- Proven skills in managing engineering projects, including scheduling and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong capability to troubleshoot issues related to design, manufacturing, and operational performance.
- Very proficient in creating detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Able to encourage collaboration and inclusion within the team, setting realistic expectations based on individual abilities.
- Willing to provide guidance and direction to the ME/Design team, set performance standards, monitor performance, and leads by example.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software suite for documentation and communication.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with engineers, integrators, technicians, buyers, and coordinators.
