Woodfords Family Services is currently seeking to train and license individuals and couples as Therapeutic Foster Parents


Who We Are

Woodfords Family Services is a nonprofit organization that's been committed to the support and inclusion of people with special needs and their families in Maine communities for over 55 years Today, the organization provides an array of clinical, behavioral health and educational programs to more than 2,000 children, youth and adults living with autism, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities and/or mental health diagnoses across the state of Maine.


Summary

Woodfords' Therapeutic Foster Program provides treatment-level foster care to children 3-21 years with developmental and/or emotional disabilities who cannot reside with their biological family.

As a Therapeutic Foster Parent, you will serve an integral part in this process, by providing a nurturing and safe environment for a child in the foster care system to live, learn, and thrive in. As the primary caregiver, you will support a child placed in your home and support in the following:

  • Oversee medical appointments, medication administration, transportation to and from appointments, and activities, as well as the day-to-day and direct care services.
  • Oversee and support family reunification & family visits.
  • Oversee the child's educational needs.
  • Serve as a key member of the Therapeutic Foster Care Program working independently and cooperatively with a team.

Qualifications

  • May be married, single, or partnered.
  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Currently rent or own a residence in Maine.
  • Have spare bedroom in your home for a child or teen.
  • Have experience as state-licensed family foster parent (at least 1 year) OR work experience (at least 6 months) with children and/or teens.
  • Must successfully complete introductory training.
  • Possess a willingness to work with birth parents, service providers and service agencies.
  • Supportive, flexible, and committed to helping children in foster care and their families.
  • Possess effective parenting skills and willingness to learn and adapt.
