About the Job

The Coordinator of Outreach and Recruitment will provide high-level organizational and administrative support to the Graduate School Diversity Office (GSDO) in the Graduate School. The Coordinator will support the Outreach and Recruitment Pillar of the Graduate School Diversity Office (GSDO) in its goal to recruit a diverse graduate student body to the University of Minnesota (UMN) and the University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD). The ideal candidate is one who is driven to creating pathways to education for those from minoritized backgrounds; passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education; inspired to recruit students from background traditionally underrepresented in academia and supportive of the GS and GSDO missions of preparing the next generation of scholars and leaders.

This position will report directly to the GSDO Assistant Director of Outreach and Recruitment (AD-OR), and also provide support, as needed, to other pillars and colleagues within the GSDO. This position requires year-round local and nation-wide travel.

This is a 100%, 12-months, annually renewable appointment (classification 9702AN, Student Services Pro 2-Admissions).

JOB DUTIES:
Outreach & Recruitment (70%):

  • Assist AD-OR in researching, coordinating, attending, and assessing high-impact systemwide, regional, and national recruitment events, prioritizing the inclusion and
    recruitment of underrepresented and historically minioritized prospective graduate students to UMN and UMD graduate programs.
  • Conduct recruitment of underrepresented and historically minioritized prospective graduate students at local and nationwide recruitment fairs, campus visits, and other engagement opportunities.
  • Manage logistics and execution of individual/group campus visit and presentation requests from colleges, undergraduate programs, and prospective students.
  • Actively participate in the planning, implementation, and assessment of annual GSDO signature diversity recruitment events, such as by leading McNair/TRIO SSS Summer Visit Programs, and assisting with UMN Graduate Programs Fair.
  • Oversee the annual GSDO/Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) application fee waiver program process, and the promotion of the program to diverse applicants.
  • Manage the Graduate Recruitment Ambassadors Program (GRAP), including annual student ambassador selection process and training; ambassador scheduling; and assessment of ambassador preparedness and performance.

Operational and Administrative Support (25%):

  • Outreach & Recruitment:
    • Manage detailed event logistics, including but not limited to: creation of fliers and other promotional materials, forms; calendaring, room reservations, set-up/tear- down, purchasing, catering, transportation, vendors, check requests, student worker contracts, and assessments.
    • Know and follow University policies related to events. Responsibly manage events within the financial stewardship principles of UMN and GS.
    • Oversee recruitment fair/conference registration logistics and travel arrangements for O&R staff.
    • Daily management of O&R email account.
  • GSDO Team:
    • Daily co-monitoring of GSDO email account.
    • Event support for major programs across GSDO Pillars.
    • GSDO team meeting and event logistics, including but not limited to: calendaring, agendas, meeting minutes, supplies needed, and set up for GSDO staff meetings
      and events.
    • Administrative support for AVP, GSDO as requested, including but not limited to: calendaring and purchasing.
    • Daily maintenance and upkeep of student lounge space (in-person working days).

Perform other duties and projects as assigned or necessary to advance the Graduate School and Graduate School Diversity Office missions (5%):

WORK MODE: Graduate School staff are currently working in a hybrid mode (some time remote and some time on campus) and are currently required to be on campus on Wednesdays. When not travelling, the Coordinator is expected to work on campus a minimum of two days a week to support GSDO operations and events (this arrangement is subject to change).

SALARY: The salary for the maximally qualified hire is $56,000.


Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 2 years of professional experience working with college students or youth in an advisory, mentoring, event-planning, and/or educational capacity
  • This experience to include one year of experience working with underrepresented student or youth populations.
  • Exceptional writing, organization, facilitation, public speaking, and interpersonal communication skills as demonstrated by examples provided via resume and other required application materials
  • Proficiency in the use of social media.
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, or related field.
  • Prior recruitment experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work both under minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Desire and commitment to working within and supporting a welcoming and cohesive team dynamic.
