Who We're Looking For

Toyota's Purchasing Supplier Development (PSD) Engineering Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Engineer.

The primary responsibility of this role is to lead the development of New Model products and processes with our Supplier Partners for all North American-built vehicles. To achieve this goal, the Engineer will deploy the PSD New Model Development Operational Procedure to optimize the design for manufacturability to achieve project milestones.

The person in this role will support PSD's objective to develop our outsourced supply base to ensure overall best cost, quality, manufacturability, and operational self-reliance. The candidates should consistently demonstrate attributes of next-level capability as outlined in the Toyota Core Competencies and meet the expectations of the current position.

This job will be located in Saline, MI.

What you'll be doing

Utilize process engineering and Toyota Production System skills, through collaborative work with our Supplier Partner's teams, to ensure the design and implementation of optimal manufacturing processesExecute and manage the PSD operating procedure for responsible accessory commodities across multiple vehicle programsDevelop, execute, and modify project strategies for critical parts, based on risk-ranking activitiesWork with Supplier Partners to develop appropriate project schedules to achieve vehicle milestone objectives and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Lead Supplier Partner teams in problem-solving and consensus building to mitigate risks utilizing Toyota Business PracticesMaintain and communicate responsible part status information supporting project KPI visualization, internally and externally
What you bring

Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or similar technical field or 4+ years of equivalent professional experience in automotive manufacturing/engineeringManufacturing, Quality, or Engineering experience (includes applicable co-op experience) developing Automotive or similar commodities, such as:Interior - Trim, Garnish, Instrument Panel, Console Box, HVACExterior - Grill, Bumper, Rocker, Spoiler, Undercover, Outer Mirror, Door handle, GlassElectrical/Electronic - Audio, Multi-media, ECU, Battery, Hybrid SystemSafety and Functional - Airbag, Seat Belt, Steering Wheel, Accelerator/Brake Pedal, SunroofChassis - Steering, Suspension, Brakes, DrivelinePowertrain - Engine, Transmission, BatteryBody & Assembly - Frame, Body stamping, Structural stamping & weldSeats/Soft Trim - Seat, Headliner, Door TrimManufacturing, Quality, or Engineering Experience developing one or more of the following processes:Molding processes, Plastics joining, Complex Assembly, Paint or Coatings applicationElectronics Soldering/SMT, Complex Assembly, Sewing, Wrapping, Wire harness assemblyCasting, Forging (Aluminum & Iron)Machining, Milling, Heat TreatmentStamping, WeldingMaterials including Steel, Aluminum, Resins, Paint, RubberExperience and knowledge in General Automotive Body and Vehicle StructuresExperience reading drawings/prints, including the ability to discuss basic GD&T for manufactured partsAbility and willingness to travel up to 50% Peak, average %

Automotive manufacturing experience, working directly for an Automotive OEM or Automotive SupplierNew Model Production Preparation experience with demonstrated ability to manage either of the following:Multiple Tier 1 Suppliers Production Preparation across multiple vehicle/unit projectsThe establishment of manufacturing processes to include critical characteristics and parameter controls across a broad spectrum of inputs such as Tooling, Equipment, Process Capacity, Capability, Quality, Throughput, and Human DevelopmentExperience in design feedback activity for manufacturability or cost-reduction initiativesExperience with Catia /AutoCAD/AutoformExperience with Tool & Die Structure and Design for Stamping, Welding, Casting, Injection Molding, and/or Forging Experience in Toyota Purchasing Supplier Development or EquivalentSuccessful completion of Toyota Business Practice (TBP) Panel or other established problem-solving methodology training & experience
