Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Overview:
This role encompasses the entry-level positions within the Engineering Technician classification series and is based in Salina, KS. Successful candidates may be appointed at a higher level based on their experience and qualifications. This position is designed to facilitate training and development for construction staff to fulfill essential responsibilities. The employee will undertake assignments and gain experience while in a training capacity.
Note: The individual in this role must maintain Certified Inspection certifications as per the KDOT CIT Program, as detailed in the Engineering Technician Progression Manual for the specific career path and any additional requirements as set forth by the Senior Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing construction contracts to ensure compliance with legal standards and achieve desired quality outcomes, adhering to specific instructions and standards.
- Engage in basic engineering and mathematical procedures, following guidelines and maintaining accurate records of work performed.
- Conduct or assist in routine engineering tests in laboratory or field settings, or inspect construction projects for adherence to standard practices, specifications, plans, and special provisions. This includes testing aggregate gradation and other standard assessments.

Qualifications:
- Valid Driver's License required at the time of appointment.
Post-Offer/Pre-employment Requirements:
- A CDL must be obtained within 90 days of hire and maintained. KDOT provides CDL training at no cost to the employee.
- This position is subject to pre-employment physical testing. The selected candidate will be required to pass the screening as a condition of employment.
- This CDL position is subject to drug and alcohol testing under the authority of the US Department of Transportation. The selected candidate will be required to pass a DOT pre-employment/pre-duty drug test as a condition of employment in this position. Participation in random testing, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing is also required.
- Any Commercial Driver who has received a Confirmed Positive Result or the Equivalent and has not successfully completed all Rehabilitation Program requirements and follow-up testing requirements is not eligible for this position.
- Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate required in accordance with Executive Order. Each applicant selected for a State of Kansas job vacancy must apply for a Tax Clearance Certificate within 10 days from the date of the offer letter.
