Boston, Massachusetts, United States Boston University Full time

Boston University is an Association of American Universities institution with a rich tradition of inclusion and social justice. The School of Public Health takes the University's commitment even further with its own detailed plan for fostering a diverse and inclusive community. Founded in 1976, BUSPH ranks as the sixth leading public health school in the country, according to the latest U.S. News & World Report graduate school rankings. We offer master's- and doctoral-level education in public health along with post-doctoral training. With over 300 faculty in six departments, the School conducts policy-changing public health research, with the mission of improving the health of populations, especially the underserved, locally and globally.

The Department of Global Health of the Boston University School of Public Health conducts research and evaluation, teaches, and engages in public health practice in low-and middle-income countries around the world. Department Faculty lead 6 Boston University School of Public Health certificates for the MPH degree, and participate in 8 global NGOs, World Health Organization Guidelines Committees, and many other international organizations. We have expertise in a wide range of disciplines including adult and pediatric medicine, data science, demography, epidemiology, health economics, health systems strengthening, and pharmaceutical policy. We focus on Infectious Diseases (HIV/AIDS, Respiratory Infections, Tuberculosis (TB) and emerging infectious diseases), Maternal and Child Health, Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and more recently on Mental Health and the Impact of Climate Change on Global Health.

The GH department is looking for a qualified external instructor to teach GH 770: Poverty, Health, and Development. This 4-credit master's level course is intended to introduce students to the basic concepts and interrelated nature of poverty and development (including the dynamics and measures of poverty, inequality, and global burden of disease). We will then focus on a number of important cross-cutting health challenges that relate closely to levels of poverty and development, such as child health, maternal health, HIV and AIDS, women's empowerment, and climate change. The course draws on a variety of teaching methods, including large and small discussions, student-led workshops, guest lectures, and interactive exercises, as well as a set of team-based activities concentrated on one of the cross-cutting health challenges. Students will gain a deep knowledge of the interwoven nature of changes in poverty, inequities, and health status, and by the end of the class will be experts in at least one of the major topic areas, as they advance their skills in teamwork, engaging their peers on a specific health-related topic, conducting research and in- depth analysis, and disseminating their findings.
