RESEARCH DATA ANALYST School of Public Health Epidemiology
1 month ago
The Research Data Analyst will primarily be responsible for spatial and cohort data management, and statistical analysis of data for various grants focused on environmental determinants of health, dementia, and health inequities at the Boston University School of Public Health. The Research Data Analyst will be in charge of leveraging and harmonizing spatial data to study environmental exposures (green space, air pollution, ambient temperature, noise, walkability, neighborhood amenities, access to transit, and neighborhood deprivation), across the US and link to geocoded participant data. Additional responsibilities will include drafting progress reports, protocol and analysis documentation, and manuscript preparation. The Data Analyst will primarily use R statistical software to perform analyses and will be critical to ensuring the timely presentation and publication of results from multiple grants. Assistance with grant writing may also be required.
Essential functions:
Download and create a database of environmental exposures (green space, air pollution, ambient temperature, noise, walkability, neighborhood amenities, access to transit, and neighborhood deprivation), across the US. We will download spatial data layers on green space, air pollution, ambient temperature, noise, walkability and neighborhood deprivation for the whole US across time. They would need to homogenize the spatial resolution across these layers to be able to create a final time-varying stack of environmental exposures. This final stack of environmental exposures will be linked to cohort data to examine associations between environmental features and dementia risk factors.
Harmonize spatial data layers according to spatial resolution and time of assessment. Perform data management on spatial variables that come as a result of the harmonization process to facilitate analyses. The latter may include cleaning raw data, deriving new variables (e.g. annual average, seasonal average), label and formatting derived variables.
Perform statistical analyses to examine associations with dementia risk factors. These analyses may include descriptive statistics, stratification, multivariable regression, survival analysis, longitudinal data analysis, using R software.
Document processes involved in data preparation, manipulation, and statistical analysis. The methodology followed will be documented for internal processes,
Prepare preliminary results for inclusion in conference presentations, grants, and scientific publications (e.g., tables, figures). Education and experience: Masters degree in Biostatistics and/or Geospatial Sciences is strongly preferred 1-3 years of relevant work experience
Required Skills
Master's degree required with 1 - 3 years of experience.
We are an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, natural or protective hairstyle, religion, sex, age, national origin, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, military service, pregnancy or pregnancy-related condition, or because of marital, parental, or veteran status.
