Boston Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Early Childhood and Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a member of our community of teachers, learners, and leaders, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our students.
Key Responsibilities- Teach Early Childhood General Curriculum in an inclusive setting, catering to students with Special Needs and English Language Learners.
- Implement district learning goals and objectives, ensuring alignment with state frameworks and identifying access points for student portfolio development.
- Provide small-group instruction to students with moderate to severe cognitive delays, ensuring understanding and progress in the general curriculum.
- Develop and implement goals and objectives consistent with student Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), providing timely and regular progress reports on student development.
- Offer needed accommodations for student learning and testing, and develop and implement curriculum as required.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support other staff members in responding to student needs for modification.
- Accountability for Student Achievement
- Set ambitious learning goals for all students, create cognitively demanding tasks, and model the belief that all students can master challenging material through effective effort.
- Assess students' understanding regularly, taking ownership of making necessary adjustments to instruction to reach goals despite setbacks.
- Communicate content knowledge effectively, conveying subject matter in creative and engaging ways that align to standards.
- Equitable & Effective Instruction
- Scaffold and differentiate instruction to ensure all students can engage in complex thinking and rigorous academic work.
- Use instructional practices that challenge, motivate, and engage all students, facilitating equitable and active student participation.
- Build a productive learning environment where every student participates and is valued as part of the class community.
- Cultural Proficiency
- Create and maintain an environment where students' diverse backgrounds, identities, strengths, and challenges are respected.
- Engage with families and build collaborative, respectful relationships with them in service of student learning.
- Professional Reflection & Collaboration
- Regularly reflect on practice, seeking and responding to feedback, and demonstrating self-awareness and commitment to continuous learning and development.
- Participate in and contribute to a collaborative adult learning community.
- Hold a Bachelor's degree.
- Hold a Massachusetts Teaching License in Moderate Disabilities (PK-8) AND Early Childhood AND either SEI Endorsement OR ESL License (PK-6).
- Meet all state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified.
- Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by the Boston Public Schools.
- Current authorization to work in the United States.
- Experience teaching in urban schools.
- Degree in Special Education.
- Fluency in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali.
