Lincoln, Nebraska, United States Vertiv Corporation Full time
Job Summary

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer supports new product development and product sustaining tasks for the company's Global Rack Power Distribution products for the Integrated Rack Solutions line of business. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer uses mechanical CAD software to transform product specifications into a manufacturable product, then releases that design into the engineering Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. The candidate must be a self-starter with a positive "make it happen" approach to meet multiple project goals and deliverables including product schedules, product design and manufacturability cost targets. The candidate must also manage complex development programs comprised of multiple and sometimes concurrent deliverables in a matrixed team environment interfacing with global internal and external (supplier/partner) team members.

Responsibilities:
  • Create drawings and bills of material for sheet metal and purchased parts.
  • Create 3D mechanical models using sheet metal and part modeling functionality of 3D mechanical CAD software.
  • Generate complex assembly drawings and product submittal drawings.
  • Develop solutions to complex problems where little or no precedence exists - the use of ingenuity and creativity is regularly required.
  • Collaborate across the disciplines of mechanical, electrical, and process engineering, as well as production and product offering teams. Work with these teams for design reviews, establishing cost metrics, and brainstorming project ideation and challenges.
  • Work with manufacturing engineers and production associates to build prototypes and provide direction when needed.
  • Write, submit, and release engineering changes in the PLM system.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering degree with mechanical design experience.
  • 7+ years' experience in engineering product development.
  • Sheet metal design experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical 3D CAD modeling. CREO and/or SolidWorks preferred.
  • Experience with PLM data-entry and BOM creation, e.g., Oracle, Agile EC.
  • Electrical and electromechanical knowledge preferred.
  • Can interpret safety agency standards, e.g., UL and IEC, towards creating a safe product design.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively within cross functional engineering teams.
  • Excellent planning, organizing, documentation, and communication skills.
