Overview

The Event Management Intern will receive hands on experience in the Venue Management industry by working in the Event Services and Food Services departments. The Events and Food Services Departments are responsible for coordination, design, execution and completion of various events held at the Durham Convention Center. The internship will consist of approximately 24+ hours a week with days and times varying depending on the event schedule.

This role will pay an hourly wage of $16 to $18.00.

Responsibilities

  • ­­­­Support Managers in coordinating various types of events, including but not limited to, conventions, meetings, banquets and special events.
  • Observe the actions of management in therunning and coordination of event and food and beverage services including scheduling, deployment for events and supervisingShadow various managers and directors to learn about their roles while providing them support

Complete special projects as assigned by management

  • Count and report on inventory as directed by management
  • Attend departmental and building meetings as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must be a college student, graduate student or recent college graduate
  • Recommended for Sport Management, Management, or Hospitality Majors
  • Must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Financial compensation is available, but housing and transportation are the responsibility of the selected candidate
  • Availability to work 24+ hours a week, including evenings and weekends
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing is required
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Must possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to function and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Must demonstrate a positive, professional and customer-focused attitude
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
