Job Description Summary

In this role, you will be providing engineering design leadership and direction within the Design Process and Requirements Management Team with a focus on development of advanced reactor projects. You will be responsible for providing engineering design direction and support to design teams in compliance with the design process as well as in support of identifying and implementing applicable regulations, codes, and standards for design, construction, and operation of the BWRX-300 small modular reactor (SMR).

The Design Process and Requirements Management team is part of the Plant Systems Integration group working on integrating and coordinating multi-discipline activities to support the design of safe and economically superior reactor designs by employing a balance of cutting edge and proven technologies. You will be responsible for development and implementation of local, national, and jurisdictional regulations and technical requirements along with the associated work processes for advanced work in new nuclear plants.

The ideal candidate should have experience with systems engineering, design engineering, regulations codes and standards compliance for building a major infrastructure or critical facilities project. Experience in the nuclear field and working with a requirements management database like IBM Doors Next Generation is preferred.

Job Description

Responsible for Design Process and Requirements Management activities that support:

  • GE's BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR).

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, expertise, and support in the Validation and Verification processes pertaining to requirements management (RM), requirements traceability (RMT), configuration management (CM), change control principles, standards, and best practices through the design, licensing, construction, operation, and decommissioning life of a New Plant Project (NPP).
  • Provide expertise, leadership, and experience in identification of, compliance, and implementation of regulations, codes, and standards for major infrastructure projects.
  • Learn, update, and implement the requirements management hierarchy strategy and structure for the BWRX-300 design to capture the flow down of technical requirements from the Basis of Design, Safety Case Development, and Technical Specifications and other design deliverables.
  • Communicate with engineering teams, customers, and third parties to develop and support a licensing strategy and compliance with regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Lead the planning and development for the integration of the Requirements Management and Configuration Management design processes across engineering disciplines to ensure a coordinated work effort.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership, oversee project scheduling and resource planning, develop talent through mentorship, and act as the point-of-contact between your engineering team and both internal and external customers.
  • Drive the identification of verification and validation (V&V) requirements at the plant, system, and component level.
  • Responsible for defining plant-level design requirements for the systems, components, subcontractors, and partner teams.
  • Manages interface between systems, components, and project/product management organizations.
  • Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (to include but not limited to systems engineering, Design/Process, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited university or college).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering, design process, or critical facility operational or management capacity.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered.
  • Comfortable with less than 10% travel
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and experience in working with US/Canadian/EU Regulatory requirements, codes and standards for nuclear power plants and other major infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of BWR plant systems, including Mechanical, Electrical, and I&C design bases and
  • interfacing design requirements.
  • Experience working in a nuclear power plant or similar experience strongly desired.
  • Experience working in a heavily regulated industry desired.
  • Requirements Management experience utilizing IBM Rational DOORs/Engineering Lifecycle Management (ELM) or similar tool.
  • Experience working in critical facilities Management or Design Process/Requirements management strongly desired.
  • Experience in designing and building large infrastructure or critical facilities projects.
  • Extensive industry experience with systems engineering.
  • Experience in licensing of major infrastructure projects, including development to meet regulatory approval, including construction and implementation challenges.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills

The salary range for this position is $99k - 140k. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus.
