The Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute's Health, Homelessness and Criminal Justice (HHCJ) lab has a new opportunity for a part-time Research Scientist (RS). The RS is planned as a part-time position FTE) with opportunities to expand with successful grant applications. This individual will lead aspects of manuscripts and projects related to HHCJ Lab's leadership role in the Minnesota Electronic Health Record Consortium (MNEHRC).

Black, Indigenous, and People of Color and those with lived experience of incarceration and/or homelessness are encouraged to apply. This will be a hybrid remote position, with the RS working in a mix of in-person settings in the Twin Cities and partially remote.

The RS will conduct and support research within the HHCJ Lab ) that is co-directed by Drs. Kate Vickery and Tyler Winkelman. The RS's tasks will involve the development of grant applications, leadership and contribution to scientific publications for non-peer-reviewed and peer-reviewed outlets, and leadership on Minnesota Electronic Health Record Consortium (MNEHRC) projects. The MNEHRC is a collaboration between the 11 largest health systems in Minnesota, the Minnesota Department of Health, and Minnesota Community Measurement. Over time, the RS position can expand to involve independent development and conduct of research and evaluation studies. The RS will routinely work directly with Principal Investigators and the Research Director and independently lead progress on funding efforts and research studies.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead completion of OMOP validation project deliverables for the MN EHR Consortium
  • Engage and collaborate with research, public health, and/or community stakeholders to define goals and objectives
    • Ensure smooth communication between Stakeholders, Investigators, and Analysts through all phases of a project
    • Integrate stakeholder feedback into the research design
  • Lead communication of research findings to scientific community
    • Co-author or lead manuscripts for publications
    • Make presentations at professional meetings
    • Writes reports and papers on research results
    • Prepare annual reports for funding agencies and stakeholders
    • Conducts the review of relevant information, selects pertinent procedures and techniques, and plans approaches to the problem
    • Evaluates, suggests alternative methods, modifies or develops new procedures and techniques to aid in the investigation of a total research problem or program
    • Analyzes research data
    • Plan new avenues of investigation and conduct investigations into research projects
    • Contributes to website content

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists in seeking opportunities and drafting proposals to procure research funding.
  • Conduct and/or direct routine and complex research and/or evaluation projects
  • Qualitative data analysis
  • Quantitative data analysis
  • Other duties as assigned

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Education/Experience:

Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be a Master's degree or PhD in the particular field involved and three (3) years experience in clinical or health services research, public health, or other related fields. The following experience is preferred:

  • Experience successfully obtaining external funding
  • Experience independently leading research study design, execution, and implementation
  • Experience in written scientific communications for scientific and general communities
  • Knowledge of health and racial disparities impacting people experiencing homelessness and criminal justice involvement

Skill, Knowledge & Ability (SKA):

Requires interaction with a diverse population, including community members, scientists and public health professional across a variety of institutions, health system leaders, and staff. Must demonstrate expert knowledge of research methods and scientific communication and demonstrate effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently within project work scope, be organized, and establish priorities. Effectively engages stakeholders in decision making process and translates input into study methods and goals. Displays high standards of attendance and punctuality, maintains confidentiality, and manages time effectively.
