A postdoctoral opportunity is available for a dedicated individual in the Levinson Laboratory within the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus. This lab specializes in investigating allostery and drug interactions in protein kinases through advanced biophysical techniques combined with structural and biochemical methodologies.
Research Focus
The Levinson Lab is committed to elucidating the allosteric mechanisms by which drug binding at the active site influences kinase protein-protein interactions relevant to cancer biology. Our research is conducted in close partnership with the lab of David D. Thomas in the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biophysics, utilizing state-of-the-art instrumentation for time-resolved fluorescence and magnetic resonance, which are integral to our experimental approaches.
Key Responsibilities
- Experimental Research (75%)
Lead and manage research projects in the lab, focusing on:
- Real-time observation of ligand-induced allosteric structural changes in kinases via time-resolved FRET and EPR.
- Analysis of oncogenic kinase scaffolding interactions employing X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, NMR, EPR, and FRET.
- Allosteric drug discovery through a cutting-edge high-throughput screening platform based on nanosecond time-resolved FRET. - Publication and Communication (15%)
Maintain detailed records and disseminate research findings through:
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Presentations at local and national conferences. - Training and Mentorship (10%)
Contribute to the development of junior lab members by:
- Providing training to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as technicians.
- Promoting a safe, inclusive, and collaborative lab environment.
Qualifications
Required:
- PhD in Chemistry
- Experience in biophysical spectroscopy, particularly electron paramagnetic resonance
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
Preferred:
- Familiarity with recombinant protein expression, especially in insect and/or mammalian cells
