Job Description

The Department of Residential Life, Housing and Food Services at the University of Nevada, Reno is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as the Assistant Director, Selection and Development. This position functions as a member of the Residential Life, Housing, and Food Services executive team while overseeing and supporting department efforts related to the recruitment, selection, onboarding, training, assessment, evaluation, and offboarding of paraprofessional, graduate, and full-time staff. The position provides direction and leadership to a coordinator-level position and administrative assistant position who all support the selection and development of department staff. The Assistant Director maintains communication among colleagues, direct reports, leadership, the campus community, and administration to foster positive outcomes and relationships. The Assistant Director maintains full-time office hours and is available as needed for evening or weekend programs, training, and responding to emergency or crisis situations.

Key Responsibilities of this role:
  • Extensive understanding of HR principles, practices, and procedures, including recruitment, selection, onboarding, training, and development.
  • In-depth knowledge of employee relations, including conflict resolution, performance management, and disciplinary processes.
  • Understanding of organizational structure, position analysis, job descriptions, and succession planning.
  • Ability to assess and evaluate recruitment, selection, training, and development processes to ensure effectiveness.
  • Experience in developing and managing training and departmental budgets.
  • Capable of developing and overseeing comprehensive training programs and recruitment strategies
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within recruitment, training, and overall departmental practices.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and three (3) years of related work experience OR

Master's Degree and one (1) year of related work experience.

Related Experience: Administration of a housing residential program and/or oversight of several of the following areas related to staffing: recruitment, selection, training and development or related experience.

Schedule or Travel Requirements
  • Variable work schedule; responding to nights and weekend duty calls as needed and ability to return to campus to deal with critical incidents and occasional travel.

Administrative Faculty - B

Candidates will be hired at the level that is comparable to their experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
