Position Type: Intern

Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a dynamic, international non-governmental organisation. We work with people affected by violent conflicts to enhance their security and dignity through Unarmed Civilian Protection (UCP). We work to reduce violence, protect civilians in countries affected by violent conflict and its aftermath, and help transform the world's response to conflict situations.

Overview:

US - NP began working in the US in 2020 in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd and the racial uprising across the country. Our staff work to bring unarmed civilian protection methods to reimage community safety, protect civic space and the right to protest, and influence state and nonstate actors to use unarmed methods as a means for resolving conflict.

Job Summary:

Assist Nonviolent Peaceforce Advocacy staff to share NP's work and identify legislative, policy, and other advocacy opportunities. Training and feedback provided.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Identifying and tracking advocacy opportunities and forums
  • Drafting advocacy materials based on NP program and policy work
  • Assist with administrative tasks
  • Additional advocacy projects as necessary
  • Attend meetings and briefings to support the DC, New York, and Brussels advocacy team

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
  • Knowledge of current events and social issues, an interest in civilian protection and nonviolent methods

Working Conditions:

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and/or printer.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to work in small or enclosed spaces.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Some evenings and weekends may be required.
