POSITION SUMMARY
The Advocacy Campaign Specialist role is an essential component of Greenpeace USA's strategic initiatives, particularly focusing on legal challenges related to the organization's support for the Standing Rock protests. This position is crucial not only for safeguarding Greenpeace but also for defending the fundamental right to protest.

The Advocacy Campaign Specialist will collaborate with volunteers, supporters, coalition partners, and allies to devise comprehensive strategies aimed at defending protest rights and countering the introduction of state-level anti-protest legislation. Responsibilities include coordinating and training volunteers, developing campaign materials, and disseminating updates and action alerts. The role requires building and nurturing relationships through grassroots outreach and community engagement.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Implementation:

  • Executing dynamic advocacy, grassroots, digital, and communication strategies focused on voting and protest rights.
  • Contributing to the overarching goals of the democracy campaign and assisting in the realization of campaign objectives.
  • Facilitating efforts to counteract state-level threats to democracy and protest rights, including legislative measures that seek to criminalize protests.
  • Conducting research and data analysis to identify effective campaign targets.
  • Developing expertise in specific issues as a campaigner and fostering knowledge on climate-related topics within teams.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Partnering with coalitions to share and maintain campaign strategies and resources.
  • Coordinating with internal teams to identify strategic opportunities for mobilizing supporters and activists.
  • Helping to organize diverse coalitions and acting as a strategic partner with state coalition members and allies.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with local partners through outreach and advocacy initiatives.

Outreach and Engagement:

  • Effectively communicating campaign issues and opportunities through various channels to engage and inspire supporters.
  • Representing Greenpeace USA at public events and within coalition spaces to advance campaign objectives.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

  • Preferred BA/BS degree or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in campaign development and execution.
  • Experience in coalition work, including cross-cultural and cross-sector collaborations.

Essential Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of social media practices and their application in advocacy.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and navigate complex relationships.
  • Proficient in project management tools and customer relationship management systems.
  • Exceptional presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Commitment to nonviolent methods of enacting change and a proven ability to mobilize support.
  • Familiarity with democracy-related topics, including voting rights and environmental justice, is desirable.
