We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and problem-solving Heavy Equipment Supervisor to join our team at the Noman M. Cole Water Treatment Plant in Lorton, VA. This person will possess excellent communication skills along with the ability to multitask.

Under the general supervision of the Operations Branch Chief, the Heavy Equipment Supervisor:Plans, organizes, schedules, and assigns the work of heavy equipment operators to staff seven days per week. Supervises and coordinates the activities of a group of Heavy Equipment Operators.Plans and coordinates with the wastewater treatment plant and wastewater collections division for the pickup of various materials to ensure continuous, efficient, and safe handling of these materials.Plans, schedules, and coordinates corrective maintenance, repair, and inspections required for all vehicles.Recommends replacement of equipment.Works with other divisions within Fairfax County as well as private vendors to coordinate and establish testing procedures to test, evaluate and purchase new and state-of-the-art equipment to provide the agency with information and recommendations on new purchases.Prepares various monthly reports and workload statistics.Performs related work as heavy equipment operator when needed.Other related duties.

This position is designated as emergency service and is subject to 24-hour on-call and may be required to report to work during extreme inclement weather or other emergencies, including after-hours and weekend work during emergency incidents to fulfill emergency service duties.

*A $2,500 signing bonus is available to new county employees hired into positions requiring a CDL. Applicants must possess a valid CDL at time of application submission to be eligible.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to high school diploma or a GED issued by a state department of education or the equivalent, and four years of experience operating heavy motorized equipment and/or semi-tractor trailers.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:Valid driver's license. Class "B" or higher commercial driver's license (CDL).
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a pre-employment physical examination, driving record check, and commercial driver's license screening to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Four (4) years of experience operating heavy motorized equipment in an industrial setting.One (1) year of experience working with Microsoft Suites applicationsFour (4) years of experience with purchasing methods, procedures, policy, and the use of automated purchasing/inventory management systems.Four (4) years of experience supervising employees, to include coaching, counseling, training and evaluating employee performance.Thorough knowledge of state and local traffic laws and regulationsExcellent written and oral communication.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer. ? Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. ? Ability to drive 1/2, 3/4- & 1-ton utility truck and operate hoisting equipment. Ability to lift, carry, and handle items weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to use all applicable personal protective equipment in an outdoor environment, including hardhat, eye protection, hearing protection, safety footwear, long pants, sleeved shirt, and personal fall arrest harness. Ability to walk, bend, and stoop. Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions, such as extreme heat or cold. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

BONUS ELIGIBILITY:
Positions within this classification that require a CDL that are general merit may be eligible for a one-time hiring incentive bonus for new county employees only. This bonus program requires a signed payback agreement between the department and employee. Must have CDL at time of hire.
