Washington, Washington, D.C., United States ADEA Full time

The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) seeks to add a talented Director, Cultural Engagement and Inclusive Analytics to its team of high performing professionals.

We are searching for a seasoned program administrator with expertise in academia, data management and analytics, enrollment management, and diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB). The ideal individual is proficient in project management—strategic operations, project timelines and reporting functions—and is energized by using these talents to produce timely and innovative work products that promote DEIB in oral health (e.g.: workshops, conferences, presentations, leadership trainings, webinars, publications, etc.).

The Director of Cultural Engagement and Inclusive Analytics must be a strong communicator (both in writing and in oral language) to enable effective interaction with various stakeholders, including students, residents, fellows, faculty, staff, internal leadership, and external stakeholders (e.g.: dental schools, allied dental education programs, oral health associations/organizations, academic health profession leaders, foundations/corporations, government agencies, etc.). Top candidates for the position will also be skilled at cultivating positive working relationships through networking and engaging with diverse constituencies, internally and externally, in oral health education including postsecondary institutions, dental associations, government agencies, and/or in other health professions settings.

This role encompasses the direct management and oversight of the data analytics function in the Office of Access, Diversity, and Inclusion (ADI), producing datasets crucial for informing and developing insights and strategies for ADI-related DEIB operational and business initiatives. Additionally, the Director of Cultural Engagement and Inclusive Analytics does not have supervisory responsibilities, but must be a strong thought leader in DEIB, as they will play a vital role in advising and supporting both the ADEA Chief Diversity Officer and Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. This position, new at ADEA, will report to the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Primary Responsibilities

The Director of Cultural Engagement & Inclusive Analytics collaborates with ADEA ADI leadership to design, manage, and conduct workshops, training sessions, and activities that foster cross-cultural awareness, cultural sensitivity, cultural competency, a humanistic environment, and inclusive excellence throughout the ADEA community. • Provides project support for the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP), in conjunction with the ADEA SHPEP Deputy Director, and other ADEA student pathway programs to enhance recruitment, retention, academic readiness, and health careers development of historically underrepresented and marginalized (HURM) students.
  • Designs programs and initiatives to support the development of an expanded culturally infused curriculum throughout academic dentistry.
  • Assists in the planning, execution, and development of all ADEA diversity and inclusion programming for the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition.
  • Creates programs and resources to raise awareness and support the development of campus strategies addressing conscious/unconscious bias, discrimination, harassment, generational diversity, safety, and reporting by students, faculty, staff, residents, and fellows.
  • Stays informed about national and international diversity and inclusion issues and best practices for improving DEIB in the health professions, with a focus on dentistry and allied dental careers.
  • Assists in the recruitment process to expand and sustain ADEA Chapters for Students, Residents and Fellows, as needed.
  • Develops an ADEA Chapter member student tracking and reporting process.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned by the Chief Diversity Officer and/or the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education with a minimum of eight years of relevant diversity and inclusion programming experience in a postsecondary institution or health professions education. An advanced degree may be substituted for two years of relevant work experience. Degree(s) must be conferred by the start date of the position.
    • Minimum of three years of related experience with data analytics and reporting metrics.
    • Experience working with faculty, staff, and students in a higher education setting is highly preferred.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in written communication, research, presentation, oral communication, and interpersonal skills is essential for this role.
    • Experience working directly with student pre-professional and/or pathway programs to improve DEIB for HURM groups in postsecondary education.

    • Prioritize member needs by anticipating, understanding, and promptly responding to them, aiming to enhance overall organizational effectiveness.
    • Proficiency in Outlook, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel, BigSquare, Tableau, Qualtrics, or other applicable data visualization tools and software.
