This role requires curiosity, attention to detail, technical expertise, and the ability to coordinate and communicate with all levels of technologists and the business. Our infrastructure leverages a wide range of technologies and someone who loves to learn and teach would be ideal for this role.

The team has a strong focus on Delivery & Stability and closely collaborates with all business units to iterate on improving its success metrics.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 3 years' experience in networking alone; any other IT fields is a plus.
    • Have a strong working knowledge of modern network infrastructure best practices.
    • Have experience closely collaborating with development, infrastructure, and management teams.
    • Have experience working in highly virtualized public and private cloud environments.
    • Know how to design, diagram, and present high-level and detailed versions of infrastructure architecture. Recognize the importance and be able to generate excellent documentation and diagrams.
    • Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, and WLAN, design and implementation.
    • Proven experience with network capacity planning, and network security principles.
    • Can balance idealism and pragmatism in a fast-paced work environment.
    • Possess self-management skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
    • Pay attention to detail and constantly drive to deliver value.
    • Enjoy being part of a highly collaborative team where everyone works together to improve our organization and our own skill set.
    • Are excited to learn new technologies and practices that can drive an organization into the future.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new systems, technologies, and approaches that raise our infrastructure quality.
  • Help refine development practices, standards, and tooling.
  • Install new software applications or hardware, coordinating assistance from third parties when necessary.
  • Work to improve our infrastructure architecture and data governance by utilizing tools and techniques that allow for the proactive management of all IT assets.
  • Building a brand-new infrastructure platform helping our organization transition to a distributed system leveraging microservices.
  • Defining the network and infrastructure design allowing for us to continually meet the needs of our business.
  • Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, and other network appliances.
  • Creating a monitoring and testing strategy to proactively ensure the quality of our infrastructure.
  • Assist in providing computer/network support relating to software and hardware problems reported by users.
  • Maintain an adequate level of knowledge of operating systems and application software being used to provide high levels of support to users.
  • Managing our Azure setup to allow for us to utilize a hybrid cloud approach to network and resource management.
  • Adheres to Code of Conduct as outlined in the Baylor Genetics Compliance Program.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
