In this role, you will play a crucial part in accurately coding patient diagnoses utilizing ICD-10 and linking them to Hierarchical Condition Categories (HCC). Your contributions will be vital in supporting risk adjustment and reimbursement processes, ensuring compliance with established industry standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities of the HCC Coder:

  • Examine and interpret patient medical records to assign the correct ICD-10 codes.
  • Link diagnoses to Hierarchical Condition Categories (HCC) to ensure precise risk adjustment.
  • Maintain compliance with coding guidelines, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with healthcare providers and clinical teams to gather necessary documentation and address coding discrepancies.
  • Perform regular audits to verify coding accuracy and completeness.
  • Stay informed about updates to coding standards, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Offer coding expertise and assistance to team members as required.

Qualifications for the HCC Coder:

  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in HCC coding following apprenticeship.
  • Preferred certification as a Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent.
  • Strong proficiency in ICD-10 coding, HCC categories, and risk adjustment methodologies.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and effective communication abilities.
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team setting.
