A TON. Everything from dialogue in a pivotal cinematic to an easter egg tooltip on an unassuming buff is an opportunity to communicate something in writing to the player. And with each of those opportunities also comes a risk for errors. The team is looking for a Copy Editor to confirm the clarity and accuracy of every string in the game client, as well as their adherence to our in-house style guide. Additionally, this role will be responsible for organizing and maintaining the team's script library, ensuring that all parties have access to the most recent written drafts of various story content.

This is an 12-month contract with potential for extension. We are open to a remote worker preferably in PST.

What you will do...
  • Proofreading and Editing
    • Review all strings in every release to confirm adherence to the style guide, including but not limited to dialogue, quest text, gossip text, item and ability descriptions and names, tutorial and other informational UI glue screens, and various mouseover tooltips
    • Review all strings in every release with an eye toward grammar, spelling, punctuation, and clarity of communication in accordance with the Chicago Manual of Style
    • Work within the team's proprietary game editor to edit strings and implement fixes for grammatical, typographical, and stylistic errors
    • Review, respond to, and implement fixes for typographical bugs submitted by Quality Assurance
  • Script Coordination
    • Maintain the Narrative team's script library as iterative writing takes place and new drafts are submitted for feedback and finalization
    • Communicate across multiple disciplines such as Narrative, Cinematics, and Sound to ensure all parties are working with the correct draft of each script
  • Style Guide
    • Communicate with multiple design teams to update and maintain our in-house style guide so that all text within the game follows a set of established standards
    • Add to the style guide with every release so that it includes newly added or changed standards, terms, proper nouns, and special cases

  • Ability to act independently on tasks and proactively correct emergent errors
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work well under deadlines
  • Knowledge of best copy-editing practices and the Chicago Manual of Style
  • Familiarity with WoW gameplay and the context in which strings appear within the game

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $ $49.63 Hourly. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location.
