Position Overview:

Our client is hiring an accomplished Senior Vice President / Head of Corporate Communications to lead and elevate their communications function. This pivotal executive role, reporting directly to the Chief of Staff, will have comprehensive oversight of all internal and external communications, crisis and issues management, executive and strategic communications, and the development of thought leadership initiatives that align with the company’s strategic objectives. The SVP will play a critical role in a highly regulated industry, working closely with all members of the C-Suite and the Government Affairs team. This role involves managing a team of 12 high-performing communications professionals, with the potential to expand the team’s scope as the company continues to grow.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide visionary leadership to the corporate communications team, setting the strategic direction for all communication efforts and ensuring alignment with the company’s goals and values.
  • Internal Communications: Oversee internal communication strategies to ensure that employees are informed, engaged, and aligned with the company’s values, culture, and strategic priorities.
  • External Communications: Lead the development of external communication strategies to effectively engage with media, investors, and other key stakeholders, ensuring consistency of messaging and alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Regulatory Communications Expertise: Develop and implement communication strategies that navigate the complexities of a highly regulated industry, ensuring compliance and effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Crisis and Issues Management: Lead the development and execution of comprehensive crisis and issues management plans, ensuring swift, effective, and transparent communication during critical events.
  • Executive Communications: Partner closely with the C-Suite, offering strategic counsel on executive communications and ensuring the consistent delivery of key messages across all internal and external platforms.
  • Thought Leadership Development: Drive the creation of thought leadership initiatives that position the company as a leader in its industry, aligning with broader strategic objectives.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Manage and mentor a team of 12 communications professionals, with an eye toward expanding the team’s capabilities as the company scales.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the Government Affairs team to ensure alignment on communication strategies that impact regulatory and legislative matters.


Qualifications:

  • Experience: 15+ years of corporate communications experience, with a significant portion in a highly regulated industry, ideally in a senior leadership role.
  • Regulatory Acumen: Deep understanding of the communication challenges and opportunities in regulated environments, with experience crafting strategies that adhere to industry regulations.
  • Location: East Coast / Midwest Preferred – location is not a non-starter.
  • C-Suite Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work closely with senior executives, providing strategic communication counsel and developing executive messaging.
  • Crisis Management Expertise: Proven track record of developing and leading successful crisis and issues management strategies in high-stakes situations.
  • Exceptional Communication Skills: Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences.
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Experience leading and developing high-performing teams, with a commitment to fostering growth and innovation within the communications function.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree required, with a preference for Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
