The Stanford Eye Laser Center is a prestigious academic refractive surgical service, offering the latest cutting edge technologies including: Wavefront Lasik, Intralasik and Phaic Intra-Ocular Lenses.

A Brief Overview
The Assistant Ophthalmic Technical Manager is responsible for the overall operational management Ophthalmic Diagnostics or Excimer Program. Other areas of responsibility include managing the staff assigned, procurement and performance of Ophthalmic Diagnostics or Excimer. Primary duties include designing, monitoring and managing assigned technical areas to provide and promote high quality, efficient, cost effective services in compliance with hospital, accrediting and regulatory requirements. Also manages assigned staff and utilization of resources within assigned areas to meet financial and productivity standards, quality standards and strategic goals of the department and hospital. In collaboration with the Clinic Manager, Ophthalmology Chair, Chief and Medical Director, develops implements and maintains policies, procedures and complex imaging equipment. Provides input to the development of business plans, leads projects, member of departmental committees, workgroups and PI teams. Identifies and resolves technical and operational customer service requirements. The Assistant Ophthalmic Technical Manager assumes Clinic Manager Responsibilities during the Clinic Manager's absence.

What you will do

  • Manages, directs and coordinates the work of staff engaged in performing duties in Ophthalmology Diagnostic Technologist or Excimer Program.
  • Manages, directs and coordinates activities processing and reporting, policy and procedures controls; determines degree of operational efficiency; evaluates operational needs and develops program objectives.
  • Performs a continuous analysis and review of the program operating functions and measures effectiveness and efficiency; develops new techniques to enhance the quality and quantity of services to the community.
  • In collaboration with the Clinic Manager and Medical Directors will review and analyze the program budget; prepares budget documents; develops narrative information for proposed budget and exercises responsibility for keeping the program within budget allocations.
  • Acts as liaison to community ophthalmologist, optometrists, and other referring community physician who refer their patient for treatment.
  • Establishes and monitor tacking mechanisms for the review and analysis of patient volume, patient flow, productivity, and profitability.
  • Resolves patients and employee disputes.
  • Plans and execute continual in-service training for the personnel aimed at monitoring and cultivating the most up-to-date, high quality patient care with particular attention to enhancing refractive skills patient counseling skills and general clinical performance.
  • Researches and identifies potential sources of fiscal or service support which would serve to increase the center's efficiency and performance.
  • Assists in the resolution of complaints, request and inquiries from patients.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations.
  • Makes recommendation regarding hiring, discipline and promotion of personnel authorizes leave and overtime; reviews an conducts employee performance evaluations.
  • Performs technical and clinical research study duties as needed.


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university


Experience Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related managerial work experience in Ophthalmology


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to solve problems and identify solutions
  • Ability to speak and write effectively at a level appropriate for the job
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area
  • Knowledge of new technologies (in specific field) and maintain and stay abreast of updates and changes
  • Knowledge of ophthalmic environment and laboratory controls, methods, procedures and regulations
  • Knowledge of the anatomy of the anterior and posterior segment of the eye


Licenses and Certifications

  • BLS - Basic Life Support and
  • COA or
  • COT
