JOB SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the Director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction, the Coordinator of Secondary Performing Arts performs a variety of administrative tasks in coordinating the successful implementation of performing arts programs during school and after-school, including secondary band/orchestra/chorus, theater, dance and community outreach programs. This position provides support to school administrators, faculty, and staff and provides professional development for staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Develops and coordinates the implementation of the performing arts programs, including secondary band/orchestra/chorus, theater, and dance. Visits schools and observes classes to evaluate current programs and assess the need for new Meets with principals and teachers to discuss the implementation of curriculum goals. Develops strategies and provides leadership for implementation of the division's performing arts Coordinates all secondary district-wide performing arts performances, field trips, master classes, and curricular initiatives. Provides leadership in curriculum development, writing, planning and monitoring to ensure the alignment of goals and objectives for secondary arts courses. Develops and coordinates the overall evaluation of the secondary performing arts programs in the division and develops strategies for improvement. Coordinates and provides staff development opportunities for performing arts teachers. Convenes periodic meetings of teachers and department chairpersons in appropriate areas of performing arts education Attends department and general staff meetings as required. Responsible for the acquisition and distribution of all musical instruments and appropriate textbooks, teacher guides, training manuals, testing and evaluation manuals and procedures, multimedia visual aids, and other instructional materials and equipment for performing arts courses. Monitors related equipment, instruments, supplies, textbook, and supplement inventories and determines needs. Develops the district's secondary performing arts annual calendar. Arranges and schedules special music performances to strengthen the instructional program. Manages performing arts department budget to ensure the appropriate use and spending of funds Oversees and manages division-wide department initiatives such as the Porte Towne Magic After-school performing ensemble (Show Choir, Pops Orchestra, and Dance Ensemble, etc.) Collaborates with community organizations to organize cultural and enrichment activities for secondary Keeps parents, administrators and community citizens informed about performing arts education programs in the school system. Participates in various professional and community organizations; attends various workshops, seminars and conferences to continuously update professional knowledge. Develops and maintains a network of contacts to assist in the implementation of the division's secondary performing arts programs. Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of school administration; comprehensive knowledge of curriculum development and selection of appropriate instructional strategies and materials; demonstrated ability to assist teachers and principals to implement an effective approach to instruction; demonstrated ability to develop educational programs for student achievement, accountability, and assessment; ability to develop and present ideas effectively, orally and in written form; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other administrative staff, subordinates, supervisors, the School Board, and the general public.

This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, standing, walking, fingering, and spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

The Coordinator of Secondary Performing Arts has a Master's Degree in Education, Fine Arts or a related field has successfully completed a minimum of five years of classroom teaching. The applicant has served as a performing arts program coordinator; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
