Position Overview: Engineering Project Coordinator

The Port of Virginia – Virginia International Terminals is on the lookout for an Engineering Project Coordinator to deliver technical expertise in the planning, design, construction, and upkeep of the state-operated marine and intermodal terminal facilities. The Engineering Project Coordinator (EPC) guarantees that projects are executed punctually, within financial constraints, and with the utmost quality; effectively utilizing available resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administers and oversees budgetary aspects of assigned projects; supervises external consulting Architectural/Engineers (A/Es) and construction contractors (KTRs).
  • Maintains continuous monitoring of progress related to assigned projects; including the evaluation of work performed by A/E and KTRs through comprehensive reviews based on the significance and complexity of tasks.
  • Responsible for the execution of designated projects, coordinating as necessary with involved organizations and stakeholders. The EPC collaborates with senior engineering personnel to identify the optimal approach for achieving project objectives. The EPC tracks individual projects throughout the planning, design, and construction stages.
  • Conducts cost and method evaluations to bolster marketing initiatives; identifies potential challenges related to project scope. Engages in the development of mitigation strategies to address issues. Reviews all proposed construction contract modifications to ensure their necessity, relevance, and adherence to funding limits. Recommends approvals for change orders, project plans, and associated budgets.
  • This position is deemed mission-critical for extreme weather and other emergency preparedness and recovery operations.
  • Ensures adherence to all security, safety, and environmental regulations and policies within the work environment at all times. This includes addressing issues proactively or reporting concerns to management.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (civil, electrical, mechanical, port, or architectural discipline).
  • 3-5 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of engineering principles and theories.
  • Exceptional communication skills: written, verbal, and presentation.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and professionalism in all aspects of the role.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with personnel at all levels and across all divisions, as well as with external stakeholders and clients.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Hands-on experience in construction oversight and administration.
  • Familiarity with industry operations, policies, practices, and processes.
  • Experience in port-related engineering fields.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications.
