GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Responsible for daily functions/transactions of cash receipts and functions/transactions in student accounts and other accounts receivable including collection of delinquent accounts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Student payments/refunds: Applies payments to student accounts from a variety of sources (students/parents, third parties, outside scholarships, alternative loans, etc.); issues refund requests; issues bookstore voucher cards; monitors payment schedule. Collection of delinquent accounts: Process includes tracking delinquent accounts, emailing and calling students, sending letters to students, responsible to take action by placing holds that block advancement to new semester, expected to independently negotiate debt payment arrangements, authorized to waive late charges and other penalties and to remove holds placed on delinquent accounts. When collection efforts are exhausted responsible to forward uncollectible account to Director of Student Accounts for further action. Account maintenance: Reviews student accounts for accuracy and makes corrections/adjustments as needed. Maintains and reconciles various other accounts and processes such as outside scholarship funds, student medical insurance payments/mailings, student contract forms, and updates student account information regarding decisions on payment arrangements and other decisions/information pertinent to student accounts. Customer Service: Assists students and parents regarding policies and procedures – may be on an individual level (in person or over the phone/email) or in a group setting (large or small). Other accounts receivable and cash receipts: Records cash in appropriate account and prepares and reconciles deposit and maintains records. Responsible for understanding Direct Loans and how they function: Timing of posting federal funds to accounts; refund regulations; regulations for return of federal funds; required information in student computer files. Balances cash drawer daily. Reconciles various accounts.SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & BEHAVIORS:
High school education or equivalent and one to two years of experience in collections, accounts receivable and customer service. Business/Accounting courses at the college level helpful Good oral and written communication skills. Excellent computer skills; experience with Windows, Microsoft Office and Excel. Working knowledge of administrative software systems, preferably in higher education. Proficient on ten-key adding machine. Good interpersonal skills and ability to deal with customers in a positive manner. Ability to multitask, detail oriented, accurate and thorough in preparation of work. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information.WORKING CONDITIONS:
General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 20% of the time. The working environment is generally favorable, yet busy at times. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
