Position Description
The Sustainability Student Coordinator will help support the university-wide sustainability committee towards its Laudato Si' strategic planning efforts. The sustainability student coordinator internship is a year-long appointment under Career Programs and the Office of the President. The overall purpose of the student coordinator is to (1) further Dominican University's strategic goal no. 4, (2) operationalize sustainability across campus partners, and (3) coordinate two-co-curricular programming opportunities for our campus community.
Responsibilities
- Lead SustainDU and call monthly meetings;
- Collaborate and communicate with student organizations;
- Brainstorm new sustainable strategies and practices;
- Attend and take notes on monthly Illinois Catholic Climate Covenant action phone calls;
- Share notes with Sustainability Chair;
- Create a sustainable event guide for students, faculty, and staff;
- Share guide with campus partners and conduct peer-to-peer outreach to inform student leaders and organizations;
- Coordinate one sustainable co-curricular event per semester;
- Analyzes analytics to gauge the success and environmental impact of each event;
- Create one distinct social media post, for each sustainable event;
- Communicate across campus partners to collect, record, and report evidence of current Laudato Si' initiatives across campus;
- Record all the reusable water stations on campus at the beginning and end of every term;
- Record UPASS participants and growth of the program;
- Contact, communicate, and coordinate social media posts across DU partner accounts;
- Design flyer for various display boards across campus;
- Present data findings and learned experience at Spring 2025 EXPO
- Junior or senior standing for the 2024/2025 academic year;
- Have an interest in sustainability, social justice, and civic learning;
- Creative, flexible, and also be able to work independently and as a team;
- Attention to detail;
- Must be eligible for US employment
Hours/Pay/Credits: 5-10 Hours Per Week; $15/hour; 3 credits via Career Practicum (CP355)
