POSITION SUMMARY:
This position promotes family stability and community engagement for new-to-country adult learners. The coordinator is responsible for supporting non-traditional adult students, SoWashCo new-to-country families, business, and community partners to build relationships that lead to employment, engagement, training and additional educational/certification opportunities.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Assist new-to-country adults and their families navigate and engage within Community Education programming.
  2. Meeting with existing families and new to country families in SoWashCo and Hastings Public Schools to connect them with all Community Ed Programs.
  3. Provide leadership for the Community Education Staff to promote intercultural competence, awareness and understanding of diversity.
  4. Assist and collaborate with the District Multilingual Department to support parents in the public school system and community systems.
  5. Collaborate with Great Rivers Staff, SoWashCo Multilingual Support Services staff, and the Community Engagement Coordinator to represent SoWashCo and cultivate partnerships in local organizations to better understand the communities we serve and employment opportunities.
  6. Provide support for the entire family by interactively discussing and navigating the public school system and its services while educating parents on the importance and benefits of supporting their child's education.
  7. Collaborate with area businesses to develop job-specific training opportunities focusing on language and skills acquisition to promote employee retention and promotion.
  8. Assist businesses and partners identify gaps in employee training and onboarding practices that may confuse or exclude diverse employees
  9. Provide a welcoming, respectful, kind and trusted partner within SoWashCo Schools and Community Education
  10. Work with partners to promote engagement and the sharing of resources to build stronger family and community connections.
  11. Support district initiatives related to parent and caregiver school orientation, school enrollment aide, and assistance with parent-teacher conferences and parent/student workshops.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):
Required:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Education or related field. Minimum of three years working with non-native English speakers or at-risk populations in a case management and/or instructional role.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse, multicultural populations and ability to work effectively and tactfully with students, instructors, staff, community representatives, government agencies and the public.
  3. Strong computer skills, including knowledge of MS Office and databases. Experience using social media for recruitment and retention.
  4. Experience with data collection, analysis and creation of reports.
  5. Experience developing, implementing and providing contextualized instruction for adult learners..
  6. Experience in program development, conducting various assessments; marketing education programs, analyzing data, developing curriculum, developing and facilitating a professional learning community and collaborating with community agencies
  7. Proven organization skills and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  8. Prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
  9. Communicates with parents, families, co-workers, supervisors and the community in a welcoming and empathetic way
  10. Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions.

Desired:
1. Graduate degree
2. K-12 Minnesota Principal License
3. Current secondary or ABE State of Minnesota teaching license or equivalent.
4. Teaching experience in adult basic education, English as a Second Language, student success, career exploration and/or workforce readiness.
5. Proven supervisory experience
6. Familiarity with regional social service agencies and community-based organizations
